wire dont know where this goes.jpg

The photos are really small.. The switch looks like possibly an amp cutoff switch, or something for lights. Hard to tell from the picture, but where is that 'dangling wire' at? it looks like it is along the door opening?

And what the hell is that last picture of?

well the red wire is what I was talking about that goes with that switch and the last pic is under the hood under the air intake I cant tell if it connected to the old air in take or not sorry that the pics are so small

the switch is most likely for an amp cutoff like andrizzle said which will also tell you what the red wire is for, as for the last pic i have no idea lol

if anyone has an aftermarket air intake could you plz look to see if you have that thing whatever it is. its kinda by the headlight

I've heard the the gen I has a separate intake air temperature (IAT) sensor. (It's a part of the MAF sensor on gen II.) Might that be what you have hanging loose? If so, you should try to find a way to get it into the air inlet stream. It's probably reading higher under the hood temperatures than the intake air actually is.

got any ideas how I should do that?

first make sure thats what it is, find another V8 and take a look, then drill a hole and glue or epoxy it in as close to where it was from the factory as you can get it.

like you said joegr I think it is a sensor I was looking at my old air box and at the bottom of it, it had a hold fitting about the size if the end of that sensor or whatever it is if any of you guys has an 01 ls v8 and that sould familar let me know

i guess some body with a factory intake need to check theirs out, i dont remember my 00 V6 having anything there, but then again that was a long time ago

Yes.....that is exactly what that is. You should really fix that. Needs to go about four inches down stream from the MAF sensor.

ok well im gonna try and make one of those heat sheild box that a lot of the guys made on here now.
sorry if this sounds dumb but when I make the sheild/box should I do the same concept as to putting that sensor down at the bottom sticking up towards the filter

cuz say you have the old box infront of you, the hole I found on it is on the bottom right side, guessing that it just sits facing up into the box and gets the temp from just the air in the box

so if I kinda did the samthing with the new custom box that should work right

you just want to make sure that the sensor is reading as close to possible to the actual temp of the air going into the motor, i would just mount it as close to the filter as possible so that the air that is getting sucked into the engine goes right by the temp sensor
