ok so a month or so ago i had to rewire the stereo in my ranger. while i was in there i spliced the dimmer wire into the accessory wire. this way i can listen to the radio and/or roll up the window without the keys. all i have to do is turn the running lights on.

ive been thinking about doing this to my Lincoln too cuz i really like that feature. are there any downsides to this?

would there be enough power running through the dimmer wire? in my truck the radio and windows are fine but the wipers are a bit too much and make it turn off for a second or 2.

Roll down windows without the key, that's swell idea, where do you live ???

Good grief. the only way you could do that is if the parking lamp switch tripped another relay that could supply power for the ACC on stuff. Even then..... just so you can turn the radio on by turning the lights on......... do you just not like your battery?

i never thought of a relay. that wouldnt be a bad idea. ive never done one but its a simple concept. im sure i could figure it out.

You do know he Mark is a high elecrical demand car right? So that relay would be powering on other things as well AND you are sitting there with the lights and radio on. It wont last long before it dont have enough juice to start.... more so if you still have air ride.

And I'm betting you've never had your car broken into or stolen before,

and since I have subs being pushed by 1000watts, I can't listen to my radio without the engine running for more than 5-10 minutes

:p Get off my old car Laser lol

As for the OP, I'm really confused why you would even want to do this. It's not a smart idea but you know the cigarette lighter has a hot wire and a ground wire. Powered at all times and only two wires to deal with but seems like putting the key in would be the best option or....... turn the key on and then off, pull it out and don't open the doors until the system finally times out. I still don't get it though.

it was just a thought. it works fine in my ranger. actually came in handy last night. i got way too drunk and woke up about 5 am sitting in my drivers seat with no keys and windows down and it was pouring down rain. after i figured out how to turn the running lights on and found the window buttons i got em rolled up. otherwise i woulda slept in the rain cuz theres no way i could walk lol

but anyways... i wont mess with it in my mark.

FAIL! i vote for ban

you can get a plug at autozone that plugs right into one of the fuse outlets and it holds the original fuse and one more for the power wire that comes out of it that way you don't have to hack up wires, that's how I wired up my relay for my electric water pump

X2 it's called an add a circuit, it's available in the fuse/wire section. I used it when I added my triple gauge pod in my thunderbird

that add a circuit sounds kinda cool. when i got my grand am the guy before me shoved a wire into one side of a fuse for neon lights. he shoulda done something like that. but like i said i'm just not going to do anything about the radio.
