My 2003 ls v8 has 97,000 Its started running rough 2 weeks ago,so I took it in to a local Mechanic. He replaced the 4th coil pack and sent me on my way.problem is it didn't fix what was wrong. The engine light came back on He then told me he was gonna have to charge me 200 bucks to figure out what the problem was....I'm out on that Idea he spent Three days messing with it.then tells me he's gonna hook a wire up to my computer then to the coil to see if the harness or the computer was bad????? I'm wanting to replace the plugs valve cover gaskets and all the coils( I'm mechanicly Inclined) Can any one give me any info on the gaskets and plugs before I jump into this project??? I'd be greatfull for any advise.....Thanks

Have a torque wrench, 1/4 drive socket set with about 3 universal joints, some extensions and a 12 pack. Took me bout 2.5 hours to do 4 of them. The hardest bolt to get to is the lower rear (I only did the passenger side.)

I believe theres a How-to in the tech section. Go to the LS homepage and at the top are some write up they helped out tremendously when I worked on my car.

you need a 7mm gear wrech - I found one at Lowes.

You will use every knuckle and extension you have. it's not hard just time consuming. You have to be careful on the torque setting since the knuckle can throw you off a little.

I too had a miss from time to time since mid December. This past Saturday I thought I would pull the COPs and see what I could find. I started on the passenger side since it was the easiest. When I pulled the middle two COPs they were both covered in oil on the lower third of the boot. I simply put them all back in and dropped the LS off at the local L/M dealer this morning. I had purchased it from them last March. They called after lunch and advised they were going to have to replace all the plugs, valve cover gaskets and 1 COP. Total cost to me ..... $150.00. Man, I love that Lincoln CPO extended warranty, especially since it was free because I had purchased the LS at a L/M dealer. The plugs that were in the LS were NGK. Oh yeah, 45K on the odometer.

I'm having the same problem on my 01 V8 Sport. I stopped by the dealership today after work to get an estimate on how much it would cost. I almost fell flat on my face. They told me $2300 because the guy said when they do it, they replace the gaskets, whatever coils over plugs that might need replacing, and they replace the covers as wells. Then I quoted him about just doing the gaskets and he said that would be about $900. Man I tell you, if that's not a bite out of the pocket. He suggested that if you going to do it, might as well get all over with and replace whatever parts that might need to be replaced.

2300 dollars? 900 for just the gaskets? That Stealership is out of their mind.. I bought my parts online for about 450 dollars. 2 Coils, the 2 Gasket Kits, 8 Spark Plugs & 8 New Boots (only needed 6.. meh). Took it to the dealership & it was only 350 in labor.. I thought about doing it all myself, but after I starred at the engine for a bit, I figured it would be better to let someone who knows how to do it, do the job, than me get angry & break crap.. LeaSR77, Id go talk to a different dealership...

I caught my gaskets early. As SOON as I detected that blue puff of smoke by the drivers side windshield wiper, I got the parts at discount (valve cover gasket kit and plugs..the coils were fine/engine was still running fine) and initially tried myself, then took her into the local Ford dealership. Labor was around $400 if I recall. They used my parts with no problem. 10k miles later, all coils and bosch plugs are still fine.

Update on my warranty work. I stopped by there today and they are going to go ahead and replace both sides while it's in. The service manager said that way, I would not have to worry about coming back later for the driver's side and have to pay another deductable. Not only that, they called the local Enterprise rental center and got me a new Toyota 4Runner as a loaner free of charge while they had my LS. I cannot complain at all about the service at our L/M dealership.

WOW, good dealership!

I got my LS back today. It runs smooth as silk again. They replaced all the V/C gaskets on both sides, replaced 1 spark plug and 1 COP. Total cost was $150.
