Going to be racing a Ko4'd GTI need help/tips

That sucks man

Valentine son! Not that I speed. I dont really pay attention to speed signs, I just cruise at normal speeds for the street or just keep up with traffic. I'm usually withing 5 of the limit, speedo is 2-3 mph off so that would actually make me about 2 mph above the limit.

my escort X50 has saved me from more tickets than i can count, (at least three of four a year) it has paid for itself in the first year alone and is over five years old

It all depends on how the officer is operating. The ones who do not care that much will just leave the radar/laser on, which the detector will save you from. The ones who are coy and actually try will only turn the equipment on when they see a vehicle they know is going too fast, and there is nothing you can do at that point. ;)
 
The odds of him "instant on-ing" someone in front of you are pretty good and a good detector will see it (I always adjust no matter how false I think the warning might be). Just don't be first or last in the pack :)

Most use laser now which a radar detector just cannot do anything to help. A laser jammer is effective against the threat. Mine has been painted 3 times, no tickets.
 
I never raced my friend but...(Long race story)

yesterday i raced a "Ko4'd" 20th(1.8t GTI with appearance package) with questionable results. (In retrospect this may have contributed to the issues im having now, explained in Pek's thread.)

So after getting raped by one of my finals, i decided to blow off some steam and took the LS for a drive. After a few minutes of driving i see a black MkIV gti (20th edition) in my rear view mirror. Looked interesting, i could see the piping coming out of his front bumper, so i thought "definitely modified."

Anyway, some taunting from both sides we finally pull up next to each other at a red light(hes on my right). I pull down my dark-a$$ passenger window and its 2 younger kids (obviously lol) prob late teens.

I say "whats up?," and the driver asks "what do you have?" I had no clue how to answer to that lol so finally i just said "V8." The kid nodded. This is where it gets questionable...

after the kid nodded i asked "are you K04'd?" and the kid says yea, but then says "its just the 1.8t tho." This led me to believe that he didnt understand my question or didnt know what i was talking about. Maybe the piping was just an indication of upgraded intercooler?

So i asked him if he wanted to do a quick pull, and he replied "yea, 40 roll in third?" and i was like sure. Light turns green we get to speed, but I realized i didnt need to be in third, i stayed in second at about 4500. He honks three times and i punch it. I immediately begin to pull from him. And he was definitely pushing it as i could clearly hear his turbo spooling and the BOV noise when he shifted.

Pulled about a car length and let off. We tried to go again but traffic started to get heavy, then we saw a patrol car so the fun was over.

So im not sure what happened lol Im thinking either the kid was not K04'd and just had the stock turbo, or he didn't know how to drive, also he had a roof rack with a snowboard on it, maybe this slowed him down? or maybe my LS is just a beast? lol Anyone with some knowledge about these cars have some thoughts?
 
All I know is I beat a mazdaspeed 6 on a couple runs on the interstate from 70 - 120. Then one time from a 20 mph roll I smoked a couple high schoolers in a civic with a toe hook. So yeah. Take that.
 
Just because it has turbo, doesnt mean its fast.

Without turbo that car would be slow :q:q:q:q. Even with the turbo...it still lacks torque.

Im not surprised you took him.
