tires siped? this car is my DD, and i have put a ton of money into it lately. im just trying to do anything extra i can to protect my vehicle. sh1t happens in the snow, even to good drivers. its not like im a madman in the snow, just figured more traction wouldnt hurt
 
Don't sipe your tires. just get some used snow tires
And wheels from Cl. 15s from a t-bird will fit on the
back of a mark too.
Don't forget we just got 20" a couple weeks back
 
6 inches is alot... My TA was crap on 4", but I plowed around a few feet of snow in the sunfire, granted it wasn't all that great either..lol

I bet I would get stuck with my mark in 6 inches, I grab soda cans laying on their side with my pipes
 
This would be about the best car I ever had in the snow...of course AWD and traction control along with Blizzaks helped :rolleyes:

If things got deep which the often did then I would use this 4x4 and let me tell you something! It had a wicked snow tires on it :p

Oh and I did have a few FWD cars. One being a 81 Eldarado and it sucked in snow :mad:

The best FWD car I had was a 85 CRX Si and that thing was awesome in the snow :cool:

Other than that my 71' and 69' Chevelles were pretty damn good on the snow. That was without snow tire too :confused:
 
Six inches is not that bad, its drivable, it can be fun :D
We get 6 inches a week.

FWD is preferred don't kid yourself, 4WD is were its at.

Miss my dam truck.
Get some tires
 
I will never buy FWD it sucks and sorry but the
svx makes my eyes hurt

I didn't want the SVX but I got forced into taking it. Now I miss it cause I wish my Mark stuck to the road like it did in rain and snow. Anybody who claims there Mark is even half as good as a SVX in crappy weather is lying to themselves and needs to drive a AWD car like that in the rain or snow :gr_devil:

a friend of mine had a eclipse gsx. it was awd and he ran snow tires on it. that little thing out ran 4 wheel drive trucks in the snow all the time. it was sweet. awd is definitely a plus in a low traction environment.

Trac-loc with some nice winter skins.
I know what its like in 6 inches of snow, I drive it daily.

I drive it so she can drive the Sunfire.

Any Idea why that might be?

Any body with a single brain cell will tell you FWD is better in the snow.
4x4 is better yet.
 
why is FWD better in the snow?
My wife also hates FWD thats why she drives the Town car or the mark if i would let her.
The majority of people that I know who enjoy driving (better drivers)
prefer RWD over FWD hands down.
During our last big snow storm a few people got stuck in our parking lot all FWD
I just drove right out no problem although none that got stuck were a super neato sunfire
 
Yeah I had my FWD cars and the reason they sucked is as soon as the front wheels spin you loose the ability to control which way the front end is going :eek:

My Eldorado was like that bad and all my CRX's except one were like that. Only FWD car that could get up my mothers driveway in nasty snow was her 81' Diesel Rabbit but I don't think it had enough power to spin em even in the snow :rolleyes:

My AWD with traction control is the bomb in the snow. Sept it lets you over drive the cars braking ability way to easy.

So aside from AWD (with traction control) I will take RWD in the snow anytime.

PS I have a AWD car no traction control and it likes to push hard in turns if you spinning the tires. You have to play the ebrake to drift it game :shifty:
 
my thoughts are fwd is harder to lose control in the first place, but after you lose controld your Fed. with RWD you can still keep the car going "straight" even if its not going...straight..

Sounds like they need snow tires.
I can't stand that sunfire there is nothing neato about it. but the little POS goes good in the snow.
It sure is a PITA to work on, come to think of it so is my Mark which sucks in the snow.

FWD sucks cause now the tires have 2 things to do not just one. That would be move the car and control it's direction. If the fronts start to spin the ability to control direction is drastically minimized.

Don't care if it's a Sunfire or a Citroen 2CV. Lets see ya try to go a hard turn into a really hard uphill driveway entrance when it has packed snow on it from a car the night before. Hell even my 2wd truck would hit it and slide right off into the yard and then not be able to back out :mad:
