These brakes belong to an 06 Chev Tahoe, for those of you wanting an SUV, or perhaps already own this vehicle type with the parking brake inside the rear rotor, if you hear a grinding in the rear, there has been a TSB for it, the fix is a different type of anchor
the owner also stated that it had just started grinding in the front..lol

an entire brake system for the e-brake, isn't that kind of defeating the purpose...if your hydraulics go out then you have no e-brake

When I worked for a FLM dealer in brooksville, I saw many a vehicle with the front brake issue. It's called people who don't pay attention to the maintenance of their vehicle. It's not brand specific.

While that is a truth that is not the point here...... well maybe the front brakes. But the GM truck line has notoriously bad brakes and the rear parking brake assembly is a very poor design. Even people that never use the parking brake still have it kill the rear rotors cause they heavily drag and seem to expand by themselves.

Interesting. My parents' 2000 Mercury Mountaineer has the internal parking brake with the shoes inside the rear rotor. But I think it's mechanical. No hydraulics involved. And so far, no problemls.

Funny: When I first saw the name of this thread, I thought "GM Brakes Faster Than Light?????". Then I figured out what FTL meant in urban slang, of which I am not very well versed. Got a good laugh out of that one.

It is a mechanical brake not hydraulic. And if designed right it would be better then our caliper morphed e-brake design.

The original design has a shorter anchor plate on the bottom, allowing the ring shoes to slip..

And there is plenty of truth in all makes have certain issues, and no, you can't fix stupid

This problem is very common with GM trucks that have disc/drum rear brakes...what I've seen a couple of times, is the poop idiot owner goes so long without fixing them, that the shoes just cut the rotor on half

Allot of things would be better if they were designed....... better. :p
