I think I have come across a way to "re-chrome" the plastic trim that is below the headlights on a Gen2. However I have hit a small snag. This is what I did.
Went to waldogs and got an emergency camping blanket ($2.97) and a can of spray glue (3m, $9.97). Came home took the driver's side trim off and used bondo and spot filler to fill in the letters. Sanded the whole bit smooth and laid on a coat of primer. Once that was dry, I sprayed the whole piece in glue and got a partner to hold the trim piece while I laid a 9 inch wide by 36 in long piece of the blanket on the piece, starting at the middle and working my way out to the ends. All of this looked great, but however, I went to clean off the fingerprints and some finishing touches, the finish fades drastically. I know how to fix this next time I do this. What is the real problem is that there are fold lines where they folded the blanket to get it in the package and those are permenant. Does anyone know where I can get this stuff (looks like mylar) that is on a roll and not folded up. If I can get it, I may have found a way to get the chrome look on the cheap, I hope
Thanks

I tried that it's just not wide enough for it to make the turn in the middle and be able to cover the sides enough without wrinkling. It's too thick to stretch at room temp and to heat it enough to stretch it looses its luster.

well looks like you might be better off painting them to match the car, i cant stand the chrome personally i would paint them, then you'll never have to worry again.

I used the chrome tape on my grille and rear tail light trim on my gen 1. Not a permanent solution, but makes it look better. I'm going to replace with more in a couple weeks. I'd consider painting to match, except my car is red so it doesn't look good done that way.
