So, everyone knows you can get the front's from StopTech for around $100. But the rears on the Gen2 are different then a Gen1. So I went off in search of getting some custom lines done for the rears.

What I did was bought a set of replacement brake lines and took them to a local hydraulic shop that does tons of custom line assemblies for the tuner shops around here. I told them to replace the rubber hose with SS hose and retain the stock fittings except for the front caliper end (told them to just use a regular banjo fitting there). What they are doing is cutting the old swedge fitting off, welding on a new fitting, and will then replace the rubber with stainless. They've done this before and the results have always turned out nice. Plus if you wanted a little extra length in the line or something else custom you can do that too.

Bottom line, it cost me $35 to convert each rear line and $30 to convert each front line. Total cost with new lines and conversion was $218 for all 4 corners or $46 each for front and $57 for each rear. You could probably get it all done cheaper is you started with used stock lines but I would have had to go without a car for that to happen. Plus the cost of new lines was only $80 and it just wasn't worth it to me go go cheap. Plus if you have really corroded nasty fittings the weld won't be good.

I'll take some pics once I get the lines back so you can see the result. If anyone is interested in getting this done let me know, I can set the deal up for you. Here's the brake lines I ordered from rock auto for reference:
Doorman H620508
Doorman H620509
Doorman H620510
Doorman H620511

Hopefully this helps anyone looking for rear SS brake lines on a Gen2 in the future :)

Good work.

The rear SS lines DO work on a gen2, a few of us have them, including myself. Same part number as gen1 rear lines.

Do you mean they can be made to work? Last I looked them up they only showed 00-02 for the rears. The fronts were all the same though. Ohh well, I guess this way I can say they are "custom" and make people go "ohhh" and "ahhh". LOL

Either way, I'd have spent around the same amount of money to buy the stoptech lines and gotten them shipped here. If I started with my old OE lines I would have been done and out the door on all 4 corners for $138 (which included tax).

Good to hear. I plan on getting some when I replace my brakes.

No, I mean they fit with no modifications. I dont know why stop tech says they dont fit. It's like looking for a lincoln ls cold air intake from K&N on their website, you wont find it because it doesn't exist under that name, it's under the thunderbird but it's the exact same thing and works perfectly with no modifications for the LS.

Nice. Yeah, they are a direct fit, no problems, no modifications, just a direct replacement.

i dont remember the model #, but i got the lines that came with the brake deal. if those where the ones for the 1st gen, they did fit with no problems (well other than the cheap ass bolt that came in the kit snapped clean off, so reuse the factory ones) i do think they where a little tight, they could probably be .5"-1" longer, but they worked.

I did Gen 2 SS line install with no mods. StopTech Part # Fronts 950.61006 and Rears 950.61503's

They are officially being listed as "Custom Brake Lines" so there! :D

Ohh well. Sometimes I like doing things the hard way for fun. I'll still put pictures up in case anyone else is interested in having their OEM lines modified instead. Should get them back tomorrow. It honestly would have been a nice upgrade if I had taken the stock ones off my car but then I couldn't drive. Live and Learn I guess. Good news is that I'm not really behind money wise either way :)

Yeah, it always cool to go custom, but people should know there is a non custom approach to it as well.
