I am new here.lol

What is the difference in the Gen I cars and the Gen II cars. They seem to be the same but the tails and the bumpers. They are mostly the same cars still right?

I didnt know if parts will interchange between the cars or not?

When did the Generations change on the Ls's?

Thanks
Marco

engines, transmissions, and styling are different between the 2. There's not a whole lot that's a direct swap between gens.

You can use the same front grille and wheels though.

Gen I is 2000-2002, Gen II is 2003-2006
There were more options on the Gen II and more power. I am sure certain things interchange, but the engines are not the same from 2000-2006. Someone would have to break down the difference between 00-02 V6 luxury vs V8 luxury vs V8 sport vs LSE as well as 03-06 V6 luxury, V8 sport, V8 luxury, V8 ultimate and LSE to get a real idea on the differences. But basically the Gen II has more power and options available.

since the drivetrain changed, updated 3.9L with VVT and throttle-by-wire mated to a 5R55S (instead of an 5R55N), the electronics were also updated - most significantly to include the use of CAN protocol - making any of these swaps - electronics or driveline - a big expensive project.

much of the its&bits are the same that are not related to the driveline differences.

Also the gen1(2000-2002) can be had with a 5 speed manual. Unfortunately only with the v6.

There was only 2331 total made. In 2002 the v6 gained 10hp. There were only 373 of the 2002s made.

Awesome
Thanks!

That is wxactly what I was looking for. Nothing in details, just a round about idea so when I am looking for parts and junk, I know what I can buy without just trusting what is on the site
Thanks again guys!

Which particular parts are you looking for? There are more parts that won't interchange than parts that will.

Yea, they pretty much did a complete drivetrain update. The interior was changed quite a bit too. With so many updates it's surprising how similar the two generations are.

Just small things that I could find perhaps at salvage yards. I didnt get heated seats, wife likes them :) Anyway, that and a factory radio. I liked the front facias that has the round fog lights instead of the ones that I have. Flat on one side then curved on the other. Just factory appearances and options that I would like to change on mine to make it alittle different, since I am not having much luck on some rims.

rims are the same, headlights and bumper in front are different, but they are swapable, first gen had heated seats, but if you were gonna put those in, I'd sugest and aftermarket kit for that.

The seats are not swappable from first generation to second (or from 2nd to 1st). (The second gen has heated and cooled seats that must communicate with the climate control. Also, the airbag sensors in the seats aren't compatible.)

You may be able to get the factory radios to exchange, but features like the delayed turn-off and speed compensated volume wouldn't work. You would have to rig your own wiring harness for it, because the wiring is all different.

My 04 has rectangular fog lights with plastic lenses, and I haven't had any problem with them. My 06 has the round ones with glass lenses, and rocks have broken the lenses twice now.

What about just swapping leather.
