I saw a post by pektel saying his lsd cost his around 300. Thats not bad at all. I thought it would be a lot more expensive, like in the 600-1000 category. I know a few people on here have it on a gen 1 but does anybody know of a gen 2 with it? Besides ILLS I think. Oh and what did it come off of? I saw that thread want to do this to my 04.

Did some more searching and found this posted by ILLS.

This Differential will fit the Ford 8.8" differential including cars such as:

1) Lincoln Mark VIII
2) Lincoln LS Gen1
3) Lincoln LS Gen2 (with MarkVIII carrier and axle swap)

Meaning? So there is more to it than just buying an lsd and swaping it out? I need Mark parts?

the diff is different on the gen 2. you need a gen 1 pumpkin and axles at least. and maybe driveshaft. my lsd came out of an 04 mustang gt. i reused the stock gen 1 pumpkin, ring gear, and pinion.

And the pumkpin, axle and drive shaft from a gen 1 are interchangable with a gen 2? So then no more 300 lsd swap huh

put a 8.8 LSD in a 1st gen pumpkin and then put the 1st gen axels and pumpkin in a 2nd gen car, you should only need the drive shaft if you using a mark VIII carrier for changing gears like jason did.

Yep, jason has a custom driveshaft. Since he is using the bigger 8.8" pumpkin and taller gears. He also had to fab custom brackets for mounting the pumpkin.

I meant for a strait swap using Gen 1 diff and shafts into a Gen 2 to get the LSD but still retaining the gearing I have. I know Jason has 4:11 right?

I guess I could just go look at the thread lol.

Right, I knew what you meant. From what 1LoudLS stated, you don't need to change out your driveshaft if using the gen1 LS pumpkin.

Ok sounds simple. I prob can't pull this off nor do I have the space so I get the parts and a shop will do the rest?

yea definitly check out the thread on the swap, it used to be a stickie but has been taken down, all of the parts and what you need to is in there, just make sure you read all the way through it as there was some guessing in the beginning but then they figured it out in the end, i dont remember what the name of it was, i think it was something with 4.10s in it

yea i just went through it and that's not the one that i was thinking about, there is a thread that jason and rob where discussing what parts they though would work as long as you didn't want to do the gear swap, then somebody got the parts and did the swap(02v8sport i think, didn't he trade up for a mazda speed 6)

ok,

LSD or locker (take your pic) fits in the gen1 pumpkin only. You can swap either diff from the LS's with no real work to speak of, just swap them. You will need the gen 1 shafts too. You can choose which set of LS gears you want.

Actually, it was under 200 when it was all said and done. :D

But I did not pay a shop to do it.

not too mention pete has a 1st gen, so he didn't have to buy axles and a carrier, just the lsd

so far i've got a Trac-loc with a fresh re-build and 1 axle, once i find another axle and a 1st gen pumpkin i'm all set

yeah, just thoughtI'd rub it in a little lol.

IIRC, this is the list of what I needed:

LSD from an 04 mustang GT (28 spline)
gasket maker
pattern paint
motorcraft 80/90 synthetic diff fluid
motorcraft friction modifier
new axle seals (figured why the hell not, since it's already out on the bench)
new ring gear bolts
shim kit (the 8.8" shim kit will work. I bought it without knowing for sure)

I think that's it. there may be something else though that I'm forgetting.

A specialty tool you may not have is a dial indicator. You can get one at Harbor freight for about 30 bucks. (15 for the dial indicator, 15 for the magnetic base).

Be sure to have a shop manual to determine the correct torque specs too.

i might be offloading my rear end shortly.... depends on how fast i can find my replacement. PM me for details

200 is a bit of a steal for that. But it goes to show you how cheap it can be found for. I paid 500 or so for my eaton locker brand new. Much more robust than the trac loc, but 99.9% of LS's will never even come close to needing that much overkill.

So Gen 1 pumpkin and axles/halfshafts will fit right into a Gen 2 correct?

yup!!!

Look at you go! I take a break and come back to see Pete the tech guy!!!!

Eh, at least it looks like I know what I'm talking about. I am far from a "skilled mechanic" or anything.

Yeah. I haven't sent him a second email though. I gotta see about the next install job I have lined up for this month, so I can tell him a timeline to see if he's willing to wait to sell it to me.

Is he trustworthy?
