To All;

I have a 98 LSC. i have been having an issue with my Moon Roof. this is the problem. you can open the roof 1 of 2 ways. you can pop it open for vent, or it will slide open.
It messed up about 3 months ago. when you hit the front of the switch to vent(this is a factory single toggle switch unit), it does nothing. not even a sound, and no movement what so ever. when you slide it open, the way it is supposed to work is you hit the switch, and release, and it will drop down, and slide backward, and you can hit the switch at any point, and stop it there. when you close, you have to hold the switch down, all the way until it's closed.
Now, i have to hit the switch, it will drop down, and stop. i have to release the switch, hit it again, to slide it open. and i can still stop it where i want while it's opening. to close, i hold the switch down, and it gest to the front, and stops, i have to release the button, hit it again, so it will slide up and seal closed. and it does not vent open at all, has stated earlier.
This is what i saw when it first happened, and what i have done since then. i was looking at the track when it first messed up, and 1 side looked good on the track, but the other side looked very loose and worn out. i took out the glass, so i could see what was going on. since then, i have replaced the entire track system, taken out of a donor car, that looked real good. 2 weeks ago, i took the track system out of my car, with the help of an upholsterer, and replaced it with the donor track. got it all installed, and it did not help a bit! so the guy says to me it might be the switch. so i drove 70 miles to a wrecking yard the next day, and had 2 gen 2 donor cars, that both had moon roofs, so i took the switch out of both cars. when i got home, i replaced the switch out of one of the donors, and still did not help it. so i have replaced everything, but the motor, which seems to be running just fine. the track system does have a black box on it, that i imagine is a relay of sorts. so everything has been replaced but the motor.
It still does not work like it should. all that work, and not a single thing changed!
I had a guy that is a gen 1 guy, tell me that if you take the motor out on a gen 1, hit the switch, and run the motor to where the roof is located at the time of doing this, that it's kind of like realigning, or resetting the roof. but the gen 2 car is different than a gen 1 roof.
Any ideas what might be going on here? anyone have a gen 2 reapir manual, that might touch on what my roof is doing, and how to resolve the problem? any help is much appreciated! i just want to get it working like it's supposed to. it seems to me it might be a simple problem to fix, after all i have already done, and replaced. Thanks for you help!!

Is the "auto close" on?

On an ASC, just push the front button, which will then turn red, (when the key is on). That means the auto-close is then off. I don't know if you have factory or dealer installed. If it's an ASC, the button should read ASC. Some have one, some have 2 and some have 4 buttons... I think you might have a problem with your control module which is located back near the motor.

No, has explained, it's a factory roof, with 1 toggle switch, located In between the dome lamps. don't think it's possible that the donor car, and my car, had the same exact problem. that would be rare. the part you talk about is part of the entire track system I replaced with the donor car track system. All was changed except the motor.

The control module is separate from the motor, mounted next to the motor on the track assembly. what do you think is the fix?

Control module would be my best guess. If it goes bad, it can affect the way it functions with it's different movements. It was going back on it's own but now it won't. The motor is moving it back and forth just fine but now it needs your help with holding the button down to keep it going.
