gen 2 hid question please

what after market kit works the best with the gen 2 and how do you wire them I looked around and just saw the link on the gen 1 thanks any help would be great.
 
Pm Mafioso, he's a member here that sells hid lights for everything including a gen 2 retrofit kit. his prices are fair and he has a really good warranty to back up his products.
 
Or contact Max for the halogen conversion kit. Lighting is better than what you'll get from an out-of-focus HID bulb and, when a bulb goes out, you can get a replacement for ten bucks from an auto parts store.

Lol... halogens suck!

BTW, Mafioso spent time to correctly design his HID retrofit set up so that the HID capsules are in at the correct depth so they stay focused.
 
Joke on me I guess? The only one I've seen in person was the first guy on ebay that was selling them with those aluminum adapter rings and... frankly... they sucked. At least mafioso has fitted them properly, that's the important part.

But I have now seen two halogen retrofitted GenIIs and both owners told me they were blown away by the quality of the light. Both had expected it to be a step down (one was in an accident and the ins co had to buy the kit, other got taken at the stealership before he met me) and both were pleasantly surprised. The only difference (and they both pointed this out) was that the halogens didn't catch the reflectivity of signs & road paint quite as much as the HIDs did, but the both agreed throw and visibility were superior to the stock HIDs. Don't knock something you haven't tried. Especially when it's the only legal solution.

oooo The late nights with housings and Calipers :eek: I thiink I have a pretty good solution, which is with ford now in hopes that non site visitors have a good alternative to halogens, Ford now is only looking at 4300K solution since that has been approved by DOT.

I'd like a kit, before I forget. I have 3 bulbs to sell, then I'll buy. How much you need for a kit? Do I use factory ballasts? What are your bulb temp ranges? I'd like closer to a purple color, even if they 'suck' .. I want that look.
 
Screw halogens. A "luxury" car that came with hids, retro'd to halogens? Bah.

4300k looks damn good. 6000k is what I went with for the bluish tint. The purplish color ponies is probably a 12000k

Nice! Since the base of the D2 bulb is wider than the opening of the housing and the stock ANSI9500 bulbs are longer than a D2, how exactly did you get it into focus anyways? Are you using rebased D2s that will fit inside the opening or a different HID bulb?
 
The Rev- If purple is what you Desire I can make it happen, and retain close to the lumen output of a 4300K

The bulbs for the conversion are 9006 based bulbs. rebasing has not existed for a bit. the actual xenon bulb has been around for sometime now, I have worked with the engineers from the company that produces my bulbs to put the plasma bulb extremely close the filament of the halogen counterpart to retain a quality focal point in halogen housings, and for the xenon housings. we tinkered with the billet rings until we got a satisfactory light output.
 
So... what bulbs are you using and from what manufacturer (if ya don't mind me asking)?

The original ebay guy was just using rebased D2Rs, that's why I ask. Since D1 and D2 bulbs are widely available, I'd be interested in a kit that would use either of them while retaining the factory focal point, but the bases are larger than the openings on the housing and the 9500s are longer, so it is/was a physical impossibility.

If I read correctly, your solution works by matching the factory focal point (well done), but you are having bulbs custom made? That leaves us at the mercy of two things: 1, that you continue to be around to sell them to us; and 2, that your supplier continues to make them for you. I have faith in both of those things, but then again I had faith in Ford and Ford's supplier and we all know what happened there....
 
Nah mafioso I do not want purple. I was pointing it out to ponies that purplish colors are usually in the 12000k range

I'm curious about this as well. mafioso how much for the kit?

And if these are 9006 based bulbs if I upgrade to the Halogen housings in the future since mine are cloudy and I am getting tired of polishing them can I use this kit in a standard 9006 socket(which I believe the Ford halogen housing are) without the adapter ring?
 
Yes you can, a tip if you tired of the cloudy business, is scuff them up with 800 Grit, and goto your local body shop and ask them to clear them for you.

When a car is in the booth and the painter has left over clear it has to be disposed so most body shops wont charge you very much to spray them

The biggest advantage is the UV protection that automotive clear offers plus the plastic will no longer be exposed to the elements eliminating the cloudy business.

The cost on the rings is unsure, but will not be more then $100 for just the rings we are still R&D'ing them. I have to make sure they are top notch before my companys name is on them.
 
of course, I might get a few of the Gen2 owners together and do some testing for a discounted price. I have 2 Gen2's that are parked and dont move so they are usless for roadtesting, I have the gen1 rings knocked out and reaady to go, just not enough testing with Gen2. The rings are at a different mounting depth in the housings between Gen1 and Gen2 so I gotta get it right :)
