Gen 1 - HID Install

You can see where and how I mounted the ballasts to the header panel in these pics. HID ballasts get warm, so it's a good idea to mount them in the airflow.

Doug, just wondering what "kelvin" was used in that HID install. They appear to look like 4300K because they kinda have a halogen look. I was expecting to see something with a more whiter color. That is a nice looking install btw.

I don't think he meant to post that picture, those are the high beams, and in one of his first pictures of the thread it shows he used just regular 9005 sylvania halogens in the high beam socket..those things definetly look yellow compared to 4300K..this is mine with 4300K hids..much whiter that DLFs picture

Yeah, that is much whiter so I guess in the pic, we're looking at a halogen lol. I guess there is a reason why a pic of the low beam wasn't taken or posted.

Yup, I'm a sleep deprived idiot, that wasn't the right pic.

As far as the bulb temp, I don't know, maybe Joe will post it.

I just converted my 96 Halogen housings with HID bulbs etc...just put the new 9005s into the housings, twist and lock, done...did I miss something? should I insulate/seal the housing to bulb union?

Well it's hardly a problem. I was not expecting to have to hack the housing but it took all of 5 minutes, including finding the drill which luckily had the small stone on it already. ;).

with the conversion, factory bulb receptacles are now open on one side..(RH)..results in 'check ext lamps' message...cut a wire? glove box?

yes. cut a wire. i forget which one. terry can probably find you some instructions. or google it. its out there. i think i've posted it before too.
