That circular gasket that goes in between the tank and the thingy ma jiggy that hold the pump (hood or somthing another) how is that suppose to lay in between those, when i took the hood off, the gasket was stuck to it, but now that i am trying to get the hood on, it seems that half the gasket want to fall to the outer lip of the tank but part of the gasket will not stretch to that point, anyone have pics or ideas?

Danny, on my 94, the gasket went in between the pump and tank. The gasket had it's own little seat that it sat in on top of the tank. I laid mine on the tank, within it's lip and put the pump down on top of it and held it steady while starting the retainer ring to tighten down on it. When it felt tight enough to let the pump go, then I hit the ring harder and tightened it good. I think I'm remembering this right. All I know is that there was a groove for the gasket. It could have been on top of metal.

The reason for me removing the pump to begin with was because the previous owner had replaced the pump themselves and didn't get the gasket in it's lip like they should have and it was leaking for nearly 5 years. I could never fill that car up so for 5 years, I put up to 7 gallons in at a time and it never would leak. I took it to the Lincoln dealer and they quoted me $1300.00 and told me I needed a new fuel pump, new fuel tank and a new fuel pump.

That was complete bull:q:q:q:q that I paid $87.00 to hear. 5 years later, I took the gasket off the 93 tank and put it on the 94 just like I mentioned above and it stopped all leaks. I could fill the tank with no worries. The gasket I took off had one little spot, maybe 1/2" that wasn't seated in it's groove and that's what caused my leak of all those years.

Why did I wait so long? Because in that 5 year period, I didn't drive the car much. Only 19K during all that time and 5 to 7 gallons got me where I needed to go so it didn't bother me.
