Hello all,
Have been lurking on these forums extensively for the past 2-3 weeks. Purchased a high mileage (170K) 01 LS V8 on the cheap but it needs a little TLC.
It came with the CEL light on and an independent mechanic determined the cause to be leaky injectors (also seem to get the same hard warm start issue as other folks here). OBDII gave codes P0172 and P0175 (Bank 1 and 2 runnning rich).
With the high mileage, I'll probably just replace all 8 injectors in one shot and have narrowed down the choices :
1) Brand new direct replacements (Motorcraft) ~ $80 ea
2) Brand new replacement (Accel) ~ $50 ea
3) MotorMan recond XW43-9F593-CAs ~ $24 ea
4) Used injectors (junkyard Grade A stock) ~ $200 (for 8 with rail)
5) Option #4 but with professional reconditioning (by eg. RC Engineering) for additional ~ $15 ea
This thread has some useful info / part numbers : http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=18848
I was wondering what are your opinions on the options above. The mechanic quoted me ~$1300 for 8 brand new injectors and workmanship, which sounds too high to me.
Option #2 is a little confusing as I can't find much info on the Accel fuel injectors and they don't seem to have one with the same 19lb/hr rating as the direct replacements (closest I found were 17lb/hr and 21lb/hr). Ohmage seems to be a little off as well (14.4 for Accel vs. 12 for direct replacement).
Have already taken care of other things (transmission flush, COPs are fine, oil change to Mobil 1 0W-30, Puralator air/oil/fuel/cabin air filters, replacement key fob).
Many TIA!
