fuel filter replacement frequency

was going through the paperwork i got with my car, it seemed that the fuel filter was replaced at 30k and again at 60k. how often should it be replaced.

im replacing the fuel pump with a walboro 255 tomorrow - im seeing that you have to drop the exhaust? pita i hope its warm :-)

i figure i mind as well replace the fuel filter while the pump is out because the gas wont be going everywhere.
 
Spring time for me. I check for leaks, shake down the front end and change air, oil, fuel filter and check the tire's before I bring it out for the season.
 
aight well im gonna grip one up, time for a new filter 30k is pretty frequent if you think about it - i bet it hasn't been replaced sinced 60k and i have 110k. so i'm def over do. thanks
 
we do em every 15k here at the dealer in the pacNW (our gas is :q:q:q:qty.)

personally i do em around 25-30


its been a long time since ive done an esp oil change but IIRC ford ESP does them every 15k.
 
Speaking of oil changes, i need to change my diff fluid.
 
aight so i should that asap. i saw most places do fuel filters for like 60-80 bucks for a 5 dollar part. it doesnt look that hard, im just worried abotu needthing those damn special tools - cuz it looks like you have to cut it or something. i got a gen 1
 
What special tools? You need a fuel line disconnect tool, about 5 bux from an auto store. There are also 'how to' articles on doing this. Very easy.
 
You really don't need to replace the fuel filter every 30k... I recently replaced it on my 100k 96 Mark VIII, it was the stock one and it looked just fine.
 
im about to go over to autozone to buy this fuel line disconnect tool.. will they know what im talking about or is it called something else more specific?
 
Tell 'em you want a fuel line disconnect tool for a Ford - any car parts guy worth his salt should know. The one i have from autozone is metal, has 2 adapter sizes and is made by OEM (its a cheapo one Lol) Look in the tools section - will say on the packet, and should be obvious.

10 bucks for this, and i should be able to do the fuel filter with no headaches?

"Used with Ford/GM 5/16" and 3/8"." what does this mean?
 
Be carefule when removing the filter, I pulled a major stupid and broke a line when I pulled mine off, try finding those lines.
 
Being more careful :D

I've changed a couple dozen of those filters and that was the only one that gave me problems.
 
I almost broke mine, I was trying to replace it with this little plastic clips that they called "a fuel filter removal tool" it was absolutely useless and did NOTHING for me. I'm gonna see how much the dealer is gonna charge for it, I already bought it just cant put it in, I might need to look into a metal tool like you guys are talkin about though

did you get the tool that I posted the picture of, or the scissor looking thing?
 
The tool I have is a small tool almost like a pair of scissors as mentioned above, I got it at Autozone and it's anodized gold aluminum.

you wont pull the clips out of the connector if you get them "fully released" using the proper tool.

you have to push the tool into the connector first, then push the filter upwards to fully release the clips. just ramming the tool into the connector doesnt always release them.

kinda like the Air ride hoses going into the dryer.. push the release..then push the hose to fully release.. same kind of deal.

P.S. turn your head away from the fender well when you break the first connection to the fuel filter.

They're 2 :q:q:q:q pieces of plastic. About the size of a nickel each my mom gave them to me like "heres your removal tool you asked for"
