FS: First Ever 03-06 Lincoln LS Limited Slip Differential(Complete)

Does anybody know if 02V8Sport ever successfully installed this mystery limited slip differential into a Gen2 case and ran it in his vehicle? I did some searching and didn't find any follow up to it.

Winter is coming...

I don't think it ever was finished. I believe he still had the gen1 diff and axles in when it sold.

Which you aren't going to find gears for, other than the stock 3.31's and 3.58's.

I know someone with an Eaton LSD installed in their LS.

Damn, I thought over the past couple days someone actually figured something out on this site, got all excited for nothing...

I thought so too when I saw the title. Then saw it was made by 02V8Sport.

No 8.8" unit is going to be a direct bolt in.

Only one guy has the 8.8 rear end with t lock and 4.10's. It takes a custom front brace and a custom driveshaft for it to work. I may go that route if I can't find some custom gears.

As far as a limited slip diff, I have an 8.8" 28 spline carrier from an 05 mustang gt installed in the stock 8.0" housing. Bought it for 75 bucks IIRC. it fits perfectly, but you have to reuse your stock ring gear and pinion. You will probably also have to reshim to allow proper backlash.

If you haven't done this before, just buy the parts, and have a shop do it. May cost you 100-150 extra for their labor. But that's cheap peace of mind.

As far as mechanich, both my dad and my brother r mechanics, so i dont pay labor :D

That sounds like a good idea !! I wanna do the conversion with the custom brace and shaft, but since I cant afford it, the 05 gt carrier sounds pretty cheap, and I will be able to drift !!!
So all I need is to find a 05 gt carrier and just put it in??

I know someone with an Eaton LSD installed in their LS.
hope this isnt me.... I have a locker in my car not some sissy LSD. LOL

For those wondering:
LSD= limited slip differential meaning that some slip is present and that friction must be applied to both tires for it engage
Locker= means the axles are locked together.... now there is a ratcheting system for taking turns, but for easy explanation they are locked together.
If you pick up and LSDs one tire and put it in drive, it would just spin that one tire. If you did it to a locker car, the car would drive off the jack. I dont know where it is, but there used to be one hell of a good right up that explained it clearly and precisely. For most cars, LSD is more than adequate. 4x4 vehicles benefit greatly from the locker since they are likely to have one tire free floating. I went with a locker instead of a LSD because I planned on making bigger numbers and didn't want to deal with blowing through clutches and factory parts. I went out and got an Eaton Locker.... Auburn makes lockers too, but its my understanding they are also a little more clunky of a set up. My eaton always grabs and is silent during driving. I couldnt have picked a better unit. I dont remember what I payed, but it is more than a brand new trac loc from the dealer. Its not a comparable price at all, esp since you can get a used a trac loc for really decently priced. Its all about what you are looking to get and what you want to pay. I knew when dropping the hammer on the track with stickies on and a 150shot coming at 3000rpm that my rear needed to be robust as hell! Pektel for example has the tracloc, and while his rear wont hold to the same snap as mine, hes not looking for it to do the same thing. That tracloc he has will do what he wants with little to no problems for a LONG time. That being said, should he decide to run a big shot of nitrous, a stall, and some stickies.... lets just say its only a matter of time. Yes stangs and such are using them for a while, but power vs sudden snap is the difference. I dont know for sure where the failure point on the tracloc is, but I know my eaton is higher and I didnt want to take the chance. You really need to evaluate what you want from this before doing it. Or just go willy nilly and redo it a few times.

doh. don't even know why I wrote LSD. I know you had a locker. oops.

So sully, you don't think my Tlock will hold up to a stall? No juice, and no drag radials.

Just a couple of thoughts...

You can order many LSD with pre-load - meaning it will still drive with zero traction on one wheel.

And there are several LSD that do not use clutches.

The locker is ideal for strip - not usually the choice for road course or auto-crossing.

Since Tom is a drag racer - his Eaton is ideal for him. I use a Torsen T2 - since I do more turning.

Just a stall you should be fine. T loc 4.10s and 3500 stall in my Mark no problems. Like Sully said it's the shock loading more then the power that will kill them. The t loc is pretty strong for a factory piece though. The clutches are the weak point. They can be upgraded but for a hardcore racing there are better choices they are just more money.

I've been clear on what I want. Road course, auto cross and drifting. I dont do much straight line racing.

Ive asked this a couple of times, and putting all the answers I got together, leaves me more confused than before I posted the question.

I wanna have a good LSD unit, but if there is a cheaper way to have it for now, till I can afford a better unit, I'll be fine as it will allow me to drift. I dont want both of my rear tires doing the same thing, Ive seen cars like that and I dont think that'll be good for turning. Plus, to drift Im gonna have to modify the oil pan I was told, not to mess up my engine. But.. I move on as the money comes.

Is that the one? it does make both of ur tires spin, right? What do I need to do to install one of those??

Does your LS rolls like on ur avatar pic??? Couldnt u figure a way to stiff it a bit? How does ur car handles S shaped turns??
