Thanks, I am also now selling my complete GEN1 setup which has been in my car. Im putting my GEN2 Diff with LSD back in along with the GEN2 axles.

Gearing for these diffs is not far off too guys. No need to swap to a 8.8 yet.
Its in the works, just waiting for a few more parts to come in.

That doesn't look like the T-Loc in the pic. Is that the Gen1 carrier in the Gen2 case....so they just went to a 1 cap design but the bearing on that side is the same?

Its not a T-Loc. A T-Loc will not make the angle to fit into the case to install it due to the T-Loc's larger casing. The LSD diff in here is modified. And yes the bearings on both sides are the same size.

I really do not want to rain on anyones parade but did you do a full axle fitment test after the swap of the 8.8 LSD into the Gen2 carrier? The only reason I ask that is because of the way the Gen2 differential mounts into the Gen2 case may have determined spider gear/splined area throat depth. By the looks of it the axles might stick out about 1" further when using the 8.8" differential in the 8.0" Gen2 carrier when compared to stock Gen2 8.0" in Gen2 carrier.

Hopefully you verified this because if the axle does stick out too far while using the 8.8" LSD in the Gen2 carrier then it will be a no go. It would be nice if this were not the case but it is better to be safe than sorry.

You are right ILLS. There was a revision made this morning to the design. We are still able to LSD the unit.

So there are clutches to the outsides of the spider gears? Is this a factory part that has been fitted into another case or is it like the phantom grip POS's that are on ebay all the time that wear out the spider pin and send it shooting threw the case?

Are there any helical lsd options for the LS? Like pictured. Sorry but from personal experience I would never have any clutch type lsds in any my vehicle's again, ever.

Phantom Grip are for 4 bangers. I would never try to sell that garbage. A diff can be setup with a gear driven LSD if you would like.

Is this setup as quiet as stock.
Is there any whine which can be typical with custom rear end setups?
Thanks.

Dont know, the carrier was assembled before I had the chance to see what was inside.

And this carrier and its LSD are currently in your car; or has otherwise been tested by sticking some axles into it? I am not doubting here but there has already been one really large misunderstanding with regard to your project so I am just making sure this is a well understood item here.

The stock axles were test fit and all is well. I will put this 03 carrier back into my car in a week. And what misunderstanding are you referring to?

The issue was addressed very early on during test fitment.

Your previous mentioning of the LSD originally going into the new Gen2 unit that you had delivered to the shop. Then later finding out that it was really a Gen1 unit that the the LSD was installed in it and never really tested in the Gen2 at that time. Hey those kinds of misunderstandings happen. I was just ensuring that there was a crystal clear understanding here of what kind of verifications took place with this Gen2 unit.

Clarification is good. With the several different ways to LSD the LS going on...I think some were get it a little mixed up. The few of us directly involved understand the differences, but not really obvious to everybody.

But good news really. In a short period on time we really have opened not one but many options for doing this. For Gen1s and Gen2s. Complete 8.8 swaps and LSD to existing LS units. Gen1 to Gen2 carrier swap openning the ability to do this to Gen2s. Sounds like more to come. Now all we need is summer.
