Front Strut Rod Bushings

I was replacing the front end links and bushings for the anti-sway bar and when I was tightening the left wheel back I noticed a lot of play. Check to see what was moving and found exactly this part in this forum http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=22205 to be the cause of the issue. I want to replace both sides plus both ends of the rod while I'm at it. Are these the correct parts for both ends?

Have any of you replaced these before? I would think it would require removing the lower control arm which is a lot of work but if there is a work around let me know.
 
DO NOT BUY THE MOOG STRUT ROD BUSHINGS.
i hate them. they suck.
OEM is still available and not overly expensive.


Strut rod to K Member bushing:
Inner: FORD E9SZ-3B271-A (two required)
Outer: FORD F7SZ-3A225-AA (two required)

Strut Rod to Lower Control Arm Bushing:
Front: FORD E9SZ3A140A (two required)
Rear: FORD E9SZ3A140B (two required)

as per previous post save your washers and notice how they are mounted i don't think they are avialable anymore but may be wrong about that old age catching up. jd
 
Thanks. It did seem like they were a different design than the original. Any word on the easiest way to replace them?
 
The bushings are available and cheap. Like 15-20 per side. The full kit with the hardware is no longer available. The full kit had replacement washers, sleeves, and nuts. The full kits were epensive when the last few were available. Like $180 per side.
 
Where did you guys buy yours? I'm looking at the ford parts and to get just the bushing for both sides it was around 90-100 dollars.
 
Okay I've been doing a lot of searching and I know OEM is the one definite answer. Here is the issue. Firstly, some say that you can't remove the old bushing to frame without messing up the sleeves which then would require the full kit which is supposedly $200 each side. My front frame bushing don't look bad at all but since I was going to get the rear replaced I thought I'd future proof it just in case but now it seems it may be too much of a hassle to bother with. Secondly, in jamie's post "Suspension once and for all" almost everyone agrees the bushings connecting the strut rod to the control arm(which is were mine have play) can be replaced with moog without issues. Also, the bushing connecting to frame have apparently been given a "improved design" or so it says which some have said fixed the issue. BTW, why can't the the old sleeves be used with the new bushings? Different diameter? Also, where are you guys find the bushings for 4-6 dollars since at fordparts they are 15ish?

The complete forward bushing kits are obsolete.

Since you're in the south, it's likely that you'd be able to reuse the stock sleeves.

If not, I make upgraded stainless steel replacements.

I recently bought a complete set of strut rod bushings, for both ends, from Tousley Ford, for $70.24 shipped.

2 each of the following:

E9SZ3A140A - $8.17 - LCA
E9SZ3A140B - $8.25 - LCA
E9SZ3B271A - $9.47 - K-Member
F7SZ3A225AA - $4.74 - K-Member

And if you're foolish enough to buy the Moog bushings, good luck.
 
You can remove the bushings and sleeves. If you just jam a pry bar on them and start cranking you may destroy them. The better rout is to carefully pry the inner sleeve away at the front end. Or cut the rounded over portion away with a dremel.I just did the prying method and was able to save it since you have to trim the inner sleeve so it is shorter than the outer sleeve.
 
No, I won't go the moog route for this cus i want it fixed without worrying about it. Plus i don't see how moog could be better verse the oem which are hybrid metel\rubber vs full "thermoplastic". Hopefully, the sleeves with be okay. Thank you.
 
Investigating these things on my car, this is a helpfull thread.

Now, the $60 per hour question is: How bad of a job is this? I've got a driveway to work in and at least two large wrenches to buy. Should I just fund my local suspension shop?

Has anyone used the exact kits in the op post. Advance's website say they are moog but they are really from Rare Parts. JUst wondering if anyone used this kit or bought the moog bushings seperately or if both are junk.

Anything aftermarket for the strut rod is a no. It's the same part/material but from different companies. I would get the job done by somebody with impact tools. If you want to just get the bushing replaced it was $100 for both sides. I had lifetime warranty from firestone so i just paid them to do the job and align afterwards. The sleeves and bolts can seize together so I wouldn't hassle with it. This way if something went wrong they would be responsible.

I used the Moog bushings on mine (I thought they were Mevotech, but I got them through Amazon and they were indeed Moog, made in USA:wrench). I haven't gotten the alignment yet so I don't know how well they will fare. But I hope they do alright. Only time will tell. I may have made a mistake.

It's not that bad a job. But the LCA's do have to be removed to get the SRB's out. It took me about 45 mins per side to get mine done taking my time and not being in any kind of a hurry. Problem is my alignment is severely out of whack even though I marked the positions of the alignment cams on the LCA's and tried to get everything as close as possible to where it was. But I'll get it to the shop this week hopefully and get her back on the road soon.
 
Napa sells all the bushings and sleeves, washers. They are on my 93, been holding up now 4-5 years.
Only regret was I did not save the original sleeves,washers. Did not know they would be rare someday.
But what I have is working.
