IIRC, you have to drill out the two pop-rivets that hold it in place. Then you get to find something to plug the holes and paint them to match.

thats what i thought

thats what i was planning to do

Following up on Jim's post, my 06 LS came with the bracket already mounted. I didn't like it, so I removed it and got a few "automotive body panel fasteners" at the local hardware store to fill the holes. IIRC, I got 3/16th and 1/4 inch sizes. I had some leftover touchup paint and clearcoat from my satellite antenna painting project, so I used that to paint the heads. I'm very pleased with the outcome.

The plastic fasteners are really cheap -- less than a dime each, so get a few sizes and use whichever works in your holes.

Thanks Ken.

I basically copied the idea from Bumperplugs (www.bumperplugs.com). They never show you the actual unmounted product, but it is actually just a painted body panel fastener just like the ones you see all over the LS!

I said to myself, gee, I can make these myself! And I did!

Yea good point. We need them here in wisconson too. I never put em on, and they don't seem to care. If they do stop you, they always give you a warning first, but most times the just tell you to get it. so leave the ugly thing off till you run into problems.

same in Texas. I two-way tape it on for the annual inspection - then leave it off.

I did exactly what Todd did.

i rigged up some plugs similar since i removed the bracket i painted them with the same color touch up paint from ford. they don't look as nice, i got them from ace just got some little plastic rivit things. i can't show a pic cuz its too big. theres one on the cardomain ,but toddyg whered u get body panel fastners? since i just got my car i cannot get rid of the grime that has built up haha i need some good carwash sh!t what kinds good?

Just as I was getting ready to post about TX needing them, Quik answers my question... Looks like I'm taking mine off too. The LS looks so much cleaner without that block in the front.

As I mentioned in my post above, I got the fasteners at the local hardware store. Mine was an Ace Hardware store, but any good hardware store with an extensive fastener department is likely to have them.

Toddg, that looks really nice. I had mine filled it when I was having the front bumper repainted.

What is the easiest way to cut off the pop rivet without scratching the paint or damaging the plastic housing

I just used a regular drill bit - drilled just enough to cut through the edges of the top

I just did mine the other day. Very simple. Just a standard drill bit. Metal drill bit would prolly work best. Just put the drill bit on the center of the pop rivet and drill straight in. If you have a big enuf bit, it should just pop it loose. I forget off hand what size I used, but it was fairly big. Scared the crap outa me tackin it to the bumper, but it looks soooo much better with it off. good luck

Yeah but be careful, you could still get a ticket. I was with a friend when he got a no-front-plate ticket for $75 once.

But as long as you're not doing something to piss off the cops you'll be OK ;)

If I had a eclipse or a mustang, they would pull me over within 5 minutes of leaving my house. The cops around here are like that. They are really hard on the kids ripin around. But they seem to leave my LS alone. Not really a kids car. I have bin driving for allmost a year without it on, in a state that requires it.

goin back to the beginning

BTW, this is what mine has ended up looking like. I thought I posted a before and after.

Thanks. The damned thing had been on there since the car was manufactured, and there is still some "grime" that I can not get off. You can see it best in the second pic. Does anyone know what to use? My car wash combination is some Meguiars Car Wash and Conditioner and some water, and then some Spray On Wax as You Dry Turtle Wax and a Absorber shammy. I've washed my car a ton and put plenty of elbow grease in to it. Can't seem to get it clean.
