Well this spring i was thinking about doing a little rewire of the oem stereo..Would a 6.5 comp set be enough or will i need some rear fill? I'm assuming 1 comp set would be enough. I dont however like the idea of nothing being back there.
I was going to get 2 pair of Soundstream comps front+r and run them off a small 4ch..Then people suggested just 1 comp set up front and some mid bass in back so that it doesnt effect imaging as much..

I think the placement of our factory front speakers would be ideal for just a good set of front comps..

Suggestions?

put them in the rear too you'll wish you did. i have 6 1/2 inch infinity components in the front and the rear sounds killer.

In my limited experience, aftermarket tweeters in the stock top of the door location can be overpowering. Just because they're so much closer to your ear that their sound registers first (and thus loudest) in the brain...

That's what I have also ... in my 94 and it improved the sound dramatically. 94 did not have the JBL system and sound just sucked.

If you find you need more umph... I Believe JBL also makes a 10" all in one sub which is speaker, amp, and box. The run for about $150. But I believe you'll be fine with an after market head unit and the 6.5" speakers ... They also make an adapter that allows you to mount your 6.5" speakers to a 6 x 9 plate that will mount right to the original openings.

But it all depends on what you are looking for.

rich thats 5x7 or 6x8, our cars dont have 6x9 ford uses a combo either 5x7 or 6x8 both sizes fit the factory ford opening. my components are round 6 1/2's i used a 6x8 to 61/2 round adapter. i like the sound of round speakers better!!

I would also agree. In my ride i have a set of 6.5 in the front. and the mounting for the tweet in the top of the door is awesome. i disagree with it being to loud since it is the first herd. i also have a set of 5.25 in the rears. My advice would be to get some thin wood and custom make your own brackets its really not that hard and it will cost way less then buying the adapters brackets. just spray em black and you wont even notice them behind the grill

Thats what i was planning on doing. I already have 1 set done(1/4"mdf) from when i had comps in my old marquis. I'll have to make another whenever i get a chance to order the comps. I do have a set of the plastic ones that i got for free but havn't used em'..I did mock them up and they seem fine if i dont feel like making a second pair though.

I never got around to doing rear speakers in mine. One day when funds allow I will put my Pros in the rear and get new ZR series for the front since I do have a five channel amp.

The highs can be a tad bright but I have my tweets attenuated about 2-3db in the x-overs and it seems to be a nice balance. Aiming them is key. I fist used the factory tweeter housings but couldnt aim my tweeters right so I pulled them out and bent a piece of metal that allowed me to move the tweeters inward in the door and get them pointed a little better. My sound stage is right where it should be.

Oh yeah, I am running Boston Acoustics Pro 6.5" components with 75 wrms.

It does depend on what speakers you have.. If the issue comes up, you can kill the issue in the EQ and/or x-over, or just mount the tweets elsewhere.

im on the fence, i have 6.5 components in the fronts and tossed some cheap blaupunkts in for the rear fill. used the rears till they blew ($35 didnt expect much) and i actually think it sounds better without them. i got all the mid and highs i need from the front and plenty of boom in the trunk. now im not sure if im gonna replace the rears....
