found on my mark viii .. what is it??

They do not use sacrificial anodes...............

That box does not look like a sacrificial anode to me..

And they do work. They have been proven by many independent tests. They work by stopping dissimilar material electrolysis. They basically make your vehicle neutral to the elements. They will not completely stop rust, but will slow it down. And they are normally used in marine environments, but they are gaining in popularity in the auto field especially in the luxury car segment.

I still think its redundant. All but the roof is suppose to be galvanized.

The sheet metal, yes. Plenty of other metal on the car can still rust. Heck, even the galvanised panels can rust. Ford probably didnt do a very good job of the galvanising although what they did do is better than nothing.

Cut the red wire first or the results could be mame you for life!

Seriously, goole the brand name on the top and you'll probably find a statment like "Rust-Gard uses a microprocessor controlled circuit to generate a negative electrical charge to your car's grounded body panels which in turn inhibits the forming of rust."

Maybe so... one thin I hate and have seen on Marks is how bad the entire front clip can rust, yet my rockers look new.

And there is no really goof or bad way to galvanize. I am sure they did a good job. Quality is job 1, right? LOLOLOL
