For you speed freaks out there.

Right - remember the modern cars are like a computer - using a bus to communicaste between serveral seperate modules...

so if you can get the engine to run on a seperate computer - the rest of the car still need to be addressed - real simple things like the tack are part of the LS cluster....

think about how the PCM uses the vechile speed and engine load to adjust the engine rpm target and a/f ratio - well the speed sensors are on the LS bus....

could you get it to run - like the OLOA car - sure - most of the LS systems were disabled to give the Cobra PCM control of over the drivetrain - but the car could never be on the street without most of the systems disabled....

It would seem that reprogamming the existing PCM would be the easiest path.....

Do eny of you know what the weight difference would be between the two engines?

With the stock motor, I think the weight distribution is dam near 50/50 on the front and back. I imagine that adding to much weight in the front end would change the handleing characteristics of the car, and with the handling being one of the best things about this car, I dont know if I personlay would want to sacrifice one for the other.

But then again, it might not make a noticeable difference at all...

I think it is about 100 more lbs.

The 03/04 Cobra motors are actually a little heavier than that over the regular 4.6 motors. The s/c Cobras use a cast iron block rather than aluminum and you have the weight of the s/c, the intercooler equipment, etc. Weight would be a big difference. You could always build a short block from a Teksid block and save some of that weight.

the hardest swap I ever did was put a 92 plymouth acclaim 2.5L DOHC into a 93 dodge spirit. there was a lot of wires and vacuum hoses to change over. but it started right up the first time I tried...

tough job but I did it right...

luckily neither of the cars had any parts from a bus so I didn't have to many problems with the electronics.

Nope. Back then, CAN bus was a distant thought that Chrysler was playing with.

Glad your swap worked out for you! But did you know that swap would be illegal in many states? You can put a newer engine in an older car, but not the other way around. And when you do, you have to swap and integrate all the emission controls from the donor car. In your case however, I'll bet that would be difficult to detect.

haha, CAN bus, everytime I read that I think like it was made in Canada or something. I'm glad I'm wrong. j/k

I didn't even know that about swapping in an older engine. Here is the story even though this isn't the thread for it.

My mother had a 93 Spirit she put 110K on it and moved onto a nice 99 Intrigue. I took the Spirit for a beater. My brother had a 95 Thunderbird. He totaled that. Then he bought a 92 Acclaim and totaled that. The engine was OK though. The Spirit was blowing oil and catching fire (unfixable) so I did the swap. Funny part is my brother went on to get a 98 Contour and total that. Now he has a 90 Caviler, poor guy, hope he keeps this one in one piece. Even though it breaks down all the time.

I once took out the 5HP motor off my go-kart and put a 15HP motor on it, so I know anything is possible, haha.

My buddy told me the other day that someone did the conversion. I think he said the guy lived in New York or somewhere up north.

Im gonna go out on a limb here.
you keep mentioning this "buddy" of yours.

you said he worked for superchip and designed the sct software.

that could be only 1 of 3 people.

their initals would be
DP
CJ
JW

if its DP or CJ I wouldn't let them make me a TOONA sandwich much less tune any of my vehicles.

and I seriously doubt its JW, and if it were, I doubt he'd appreciate you volunteering/whoring him out on a Lincoln board.

now if it DP or CJ, PLEASE PLEASE send those dipshiiits over here, we'll give them a "proper LVC" welcome.
LMAO

I actually scrolled down this entire thread WAITING for Tommy to replay about this guy "knowing" the SCT founder...

HAHAHAHAHAHAH

PWNED

I think when people ask can it be done they mean can it be done cheap enough and easy enough to be worth it. They just dont think before they post. With enough money just gut the whole car and stick whatever you want in it. Not worth it though and someone with that kind of money prob wouldn't waste their time and spend 10x what the car is worth to do some crazy custom job. But man it would be nice if all this talked about engine swap were more on the bolt on side then the crazy nearly impossible side.

It isn't that hard. Just edit your signature line and you can have anything mod you want. My mods are easily as believable as some of the things people have proposed on LVC in the past.
