Hey there...I just got gas this afternoon, with zero problems prior, my '04 LSV8 developed a miss, bad enough to make the engine light flash.

Has anyone had any experience with this happening, or am I grasping at straws thinking gas could have anything to do with an engine miss, in our cars?

It is near winter, and we all know gas isnt real good these days anyway...

Any response will be appreciated. In the meantime, I am going to add a pint, or whatever, of some gas additive/injector cleaner/octane booster stuff, to see if it will clear itself.

Other than plugs, and coils, this seams logical, but I am getting it scoped tomorrow to be sure.

So now, since coming back from the shop, I have the codes...I have searched high and low, and cant find anywhere that explains these codes exactly...or at least more in depth.
I know allot of you have had these troubles, and maybe someone can help me out here.
The codes are;
"po303" Cylinder 3 missfire
"po357" Ignition coil G malfunction

any ideas guys?

right - likely bad coil(s). Be warned that the cylinder that is stated is a 'best guess' and often the mis-fire is on a different cylinder.

Aside from replacing them all, what do you suggest to nail the offending unit down? Can it be tested, and can I do it? I'm pretty good under the hood.

It may be moot, as if I find oil in there, Ford gets to do this chore...

if u have an 04 v8 the coil plugs are under extended warrenty untill 100k miles or end of dec take a to a ford dealer tell the to pull the vin and make sure

PROGRAM TERMS

This program extends the warranty coverage of the ignition coils and engine valve cover gaskets to 10 years of service from the warranty start date of the vehicle or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first. For vehicles that have accumulated more than 100,000 miles, coverage will last until December 31, 2007. Coverage is automatically transferred to subsequent owners.

REASON FOR PROVIDING EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE

Some of the affected vehicles may experience an engine misfire condition predominantly due to internal breakdown in the coil and lack of adhesion between the epoxy and the coil housing material. These issues may cause the coil to operate at an insufficient voltage level, resulting in ignition coil misfires.

SERVICE ACTION

If any of the above mentioned drivability issues are reported on an affected vehicle, dealers are to identify any engine cylinder that is misfiring and perform an ignition coil stress test on the affected cylinders. If the coil fails the stress test, dealers are to replace the ignition coil and associated spark plug.

Hmmm. I was told today, by a service tech at the dealer, that the coils were covered IF the vcg's were leaking, not if the gaskets are good. I will double check.

I already know there is one coil missfiring. The engine pitched a code yesterday, but today, it seams to be running just fine. Is it common to have this problem intermittenly???

So, already knowing this, I will pop off the cop cover, look for oil, and if I see any I will simply button it up, and call the dealer to set an appointment. If no oil, I guess I will replace them all...I would hate to have to do that, but sans any testing equipment, I have no way to put the stress test to it.

i would call a diff service dept be i got the recall letter in the mail 4 my ls

So, cylinder 3 is on the passenger side of the engine, thankfully, so I poped the cop covers, and ...no oil! In fact, it looked like it had just been assembled.
I didnt want to spring for all new coils, so i changed out number 3, and voila, no miss.
Lately, the last couple of days, it would run fine, right up to high stress situations. High load, low rpm, high load, high rpm, would put nit in a misfire. Then it woulod clear, with old man driving, right up to the stress limits of that particular coil.
I'm a happy guy once more, now that the LS is running fine again!
