If you saw my previous posts, you know that the composite intake manifold on my 00 LS8 blew the back off about a month ago. Am pleased to report that it was only the manifold: no timing chain problems, etc.

Shipped it up to Nick who replaced it with a stock manifold from ebay.

Took the opportunity to fix the things needed to pass NYC inspection: new ball joints, new Walker cats, new tie rods. Now runs like a champ, no codes.

As my car had been hit previously the headlights were pretty busted. Last winter's project was a new set of lights, a set of angels, and better Phillips bulbs.

The angels were the ebay $70 LEDs. I ordered the wrong sizes at first (4 large rings, 2 wouldn't fit in the inner part of the black plastic piece). So when I had to order two more, the guy sent a slightly different color temp for the two smaller rings. Noticeable but not too bad, and the lights were sealed before I knew it so I guess I'm stuck with 'em for now.

Overall pretty happy with the car, thanks again to Nick for his help.

Also, that black Acura next to my car in pic had a note on it that read "This driver is a nut sack for hitting cars and driving away." Got a nice laugh out of that :)

Looks pretty good. But no pic of the note on the Acura?
I'm going to have to look up those ebay LED's as I am planning on Angel's myself. Don't happen to have a link, do you?

Would like to do them and the amber reflector replacement (Gen2) the same time I do the lens restoration. But it appears the reflector may have to wait since the member (can't remember name now) here who makes factory style replacements is busy right now (unless I find a suitable alternative)

Thanks, digging them. Thought about doing the clear lenses but am in Queens NYC and wasn't sure if I'd catch heat from cops for them, wife drives the car alot so don't need that drama.

Yeah, shoulda took a shot of that note...

Somebody else asked about this LED kit: the ebay seller is endless_27 and he has a store there.

The lights I bought were called:

BMW E46 LED SMD ANGEL EYES HALO RINGS KIT E36 E38 E39

and the item number was:

110635804174

I don't see them there still but they might have moved. So far they look and work great, but I won't know how they stack up to other kits, especially gen 2s.

I know that dNyce LS had them too but can't remember if he still has his car.

I had them. i loved them. The rings that were crushed in the accident still worked (the half that wasnt broken lol)
Mine were in for more than a year and no issues

Edit: they were very bright, like headlights, without as much output. But would light an alley up

Thanks again for your help with my questions dNyce, they were pretty easy to assemble and I'm happy with them.

They really are bright!

By chance do either of you have a good shot from behind (looking forward) showing just how much they light things up. And maybe a head on shot?

Wow Nick those do look bright using a camera phone! How long have you had them in and are you still happy with the look or would you go the other route if you had to do it over again?

dNyce, it looks (looked :() good. Does not appear to be so bright that it overpowers the look during the day. How did they look directly head on (kneeling down to view or looking at them from a distance?)

I mounted and wired them to the car for Rick (Turboguys car), He set them up inside the headlights before hand, thats a shot I took or them after mounting the headlights, my car does not have them yet since I never wanted to shell out $200 for them, but after seing how bright these are and the cost I will be.

They arent overpowering at all imo, but i had hid lights with them. Idk how halogens look with them at night. Head on, very bright. Kneeling, some may need shades to look at them, especially at night. Ive had plenty people ask me why are they so bright.

Sorry for all the pics. I think im done now :shifty:

Here is the only pic i could find showing some output. They reflect very signs and such very well. In this pic, the houses opposite the car where lit quite a bit.

Those look great. Needed to loose the amber lenses. No amber lenses. I replaced mine with amber bulbs. No DOT issues with them. Sorry for the 2 pictures. Best way to show the differcne. Lights off. Nice and clear. Parking lights on with angel-eyes.

The lights I bought were called:

BMW E46 LED SMD ANGEL EYES HALO RINGS KIT E36 E38 E39

So there is at least one other seller on ebay offering, based on the title, the same product.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-E46-LED-SMD-ANGEL-EYES-HALO-RINGS-KIT-E36-E38-E39-/220889395384

But all four rings appear to be the same diameter in some of the pics, while in others they appear two different sizes including the pic of the car spec'd for the E46's. Searching the web I am finding the length of E46 kits are 4 rings @ 131mm (5.15in) So that supports the four being the same diameter.

You mentioned that you ordered the wrong kit the first time and had to buy two more (rings I assume). Is this a piece together or is this the kit that comes with the correct sized for the low and highs of an LS?

Sorry if I am being a pain, just trying to nail this down :Beer

What's with app the apologizing for posting pics??? Pics are GOOOOOD :D

soundwaves, you can resize them using a photo editor on your PC or allow photobucket, imageshack, etc. too do it during upload. I see your using PB, so on the upload screen click "Customize Upload Options"

N/P Blk04LS,

That link looks like the angel rings, box they came in, and wiring harness that I have.

That kit I listed above is what I ordered first. The guy emailed and said this:

"I have different sizes for different BMW's. Do you want all the rings to be the same size? Or 1 bigger ring and 1 smaller ring pair?"

I didn't know at the time as I'd seen the Gen 2s with the really different sizes, so I told him "All 4 big rings" and that was my screwup.

For the Gen 1 cars' headlights, these particular rings can't be all the same size: I think they could theoretically fit as I considered using my dremel to cut a small hole to let them fit through the plastic piece, but it would have covered them up and looked like crap. I used dNyce's images of how he mounted his to the black plastic piece and did that. Thread was called sooky sooky now or something :)

you need the large size for the outers (closer to side of car) and a slightly smaller ring for the inners (closer to grille) EDIT: I think both smaller rings would fit well too.

Again, the inners aren't as small as you see on the Gen 2 Angels, but just a bit smaller so they can mount to the inner plastic part there without covering up light, and still being able to fit the lens when you reseal the lights (used dremel to slightly sand down the edges of Angels so they'd fit OK).

If I would have said 2 larger 2 smaller I would have been fine, but again, that was this particular seller.

Be sure to specify that when you place your order.

BTW, since I wired the lights to come on with parking lights on Rick's car I found that when you turn the parking lights on the FEM module seems to send a ground to the center terminal on the parking light bulb socket so I had to wire the relay accordingly so the ground wire for the relay gets spliced into the socket center terminal.

I did not find any good info explaining how to wire them I believe I only found gen II instructions on the board.

I am as confused as you and want to make it a 1 order transaction. The JDM one is the one I was looking at to but want to be sure I get the right ones too.
