Hey guys i just bought a 2003 Lincoln LS V8 and just had a few questions about the car because I don't know too much about them nor how they should run and drive. But When I'm in park it doesn't seem to want to rev up, i was just messing around and accidental hit the pedal down and it didn't really rev up as much as I thought i put the gas pedal down. Also is the gas pedal always kinda weird like, I'll put it down about an inch or something and it wont go and then i go a little further and then it kinda takes off, is that because it electronic (no cable)? Whats better, driving in D5 or D4? Does your transmission when its in D5 shift kind of fast, it just sometimes when it shifts it just feels a little weird, either im not use to it or something. Oh and when I put it in reverse or Drive it seems to jump a little, Not like going in hard but just jumps a little. If anyone has answers to any of these I'd love to hear them, Thanks Guys!

I have the same issues and from what I can gather it's the solenoid pack in the transmission. You can also search for the method on "relearning or resetting the transmission". This won't solve your harsh engagement issue though.

Common stuff, so short answers. Search for more info.
3k rev limiter in park
throttle-by-wire can feel a little strange
Overdrive (d5) can be a waste in city driving, can get ever-so-slightly better mileage in D4, but depends on your driving style. Also useful for engine braking.
Shifting should be the same whether it's in d5 or d4.
The lurch is just what she does.

The lurch (going from park to reverse or drive) is only there if your solenoid valve in the transmission is failing. Have it replaced, and the lurch will go away. Leave it as-is, and eventually more serious damage will be done to the transmission and it will fail.

Alright thanks guy I really appreciate it! So I take it they have sealed trannys. How much would it cost to replace that solenoid just a rough estimate? I was planning on getting a transmission flush and if I need that part ill do that to.

I think about $700 to $900 to have a dealer do it. I think it's about $300 plus fluid if you do it yourself.

Good info never knew that!

There's a TSB out about it.

My 04 starting doing the harsh engagement of reverse and drive a few years ago. The TSB said that a transmission additive would prevent this problem, but wouldn't cure it if it had already shown up. They tried the additive anyway, but it didn't really help. The solenoid valve assembly was then changed and the harshness completely went away. That was a few years ago, and it is still fine today.

You sir are very knowledgeable about all yrs on the LS very glad that there is a person on here that helps out alot....THANKS!

Alright thanks guys! Glad to know there's people here that know a lot. Really do appreciate it guys. Im gona take it to my transmission shop after work and see what's up.

Be warned that this transmission is not very common. Most chain transmission shops will just tell you that you need a rebuild. If you can't do the work yourself, this is one of the times that you would be better off to take it to a Lincoln or Ford dealer.
