F*ck... question on spring install...

He is right though. You don`t need the 4th bolt. But I would fix it because im anal like that with my lincoln. But if it was another car I wouldn't think twice about leaving it.

IMHO, if it wasn't need Ford would have left it out and to save weight gone with 3. I wouldn't feel safe driving with 4 lug bolts either. Too much stress on the remaining pieces.

Another factor to consider, if you get in an accident things get pushed to their absolute limit and get used in ways you would never want them too..... and weak points like a missing stud can cause other things to fail.....

You all are invited to be on my show called. "What would you do" Here is the scenario. Your out on biz 300 miles from home out in the middle of the desert on your way home. Its 5pm on Saturday and right as you pass the only junkyard in 300 miles you hit a pothole and your front spring breaks and hooks the tire popping it. You pull into junkyard that closes at 6pm and luckly they have a shock/spring for you. You swap out unit and while tightening up the last nut of 4 you snap it off. Do you stay there till Monday or drive home. What would you do? What would you do? LOL

And if a safe fell on me when I was driving with that stud missing I would be dead. Agian I never told him to leave it that way just that he can get around no problems but might want to look into getting it fixxed. Why is everyone on here thinking that I told him to go autocross his car or something of that nature?

Are you a :q:q:q:qing moron?

The real question is after driving home from your trip do you leave it broken or fix it?

No the ? is do you drive home with 1 broken stud or stay there till you can fix it. MORON You want to resort to name calling WOW another winner here.

No the ? is do you drive home with 1 broken stud or stay there till you can fix it 2 days later. Can't you read english? MORON You want to resort to name calling WOW another winner here.

I hope that was not the guy that got caught staying at a hotel when he was suppose to be in the jungle. LOL

she is still smoking. just enough to piss me off. had it up on a rack at work and sprayed the SHlT out of it with parts cleaner. then i retightened the back 3 bolts on the valve cover. havent driven it since, figure out tomorrow if it helped. the lower bolt farthest back i got turned a little more.

how bad is it to over tighten them? lol

Oh I forgot to mention I checked the boneyard. Has 2 big dogs off leash roming yard so no fence hopping there!!! LOL

I would not trust Duct tape but that black Gorilla tape I would! That stuff is strong oh and maybe a little bailing wire to snug it up.

mine has been broken for a lil over a year now...well, I bought the car a year ago, it was broken when I got it. I NEVER fixed it. I hit potholes, hang it from lifts, do doughnuts, burnouts, and 4 passes at midnight madness.

not only has my front end NOT fallen out on the side of the hwy, but as I can tell by looking at it, it hasn't even moved.

F the dogs, I'm driving home and having a beer.

What in my post is being irrational. Maybe you should F off. I never said leave it that way. But it will hold on for EVER. You must be a rocket scientist to know that everything that takes 4 bolts will self destruct with only 3. WOW And i'll qoute what you said which is same as what I said but I guess when you say it, it means more?? Your quote "You would temporarily be ok but dont go off tearing around and what not in the meantime"

What in your post isn't irrational? You need to grow up first I see "Dukes of Hazard".
I guess taking it that far isnt irrational?
 Think about hitting a nice size bump and the front out of the four studs is the one gone and that pressure is put towards making your shock go backwards towards the firewall. Might not brake might brake but we should all learn that taking risks from you are ok! As long as we dont drive like we own the General Lee!
Also, I will say the same thing about a lug how ever everything about it in every way is different!

Well, it's temporarily fixed for now. We were able to extract teh broken stud from the nut. There was still some thread left, so we were able to turn the nut onto it. Of course, it doesn't thread completely through the nut, but should be okay until I decide to do the shocks.

For anyone doing springs, you probably shouldn't use air tools on those nuts on top. :D

eh, that ain't bad at all. I'm going to try just replacing the stud first though. Thanks for checking it out!

Dude I don't need to grow up. I done all ready grown up pa.Sarcasim there. Being 41 now I grew up watching "Dukes of Hazzard" on prime time and I bet alot others here have seen the show and know about the scene opening shot of the General Lee doing the famous big air jump. Thats what I was refering to. Also it does not matter what stud is missing because none of the holes in the body are slotted. That means the shock cap is PINNED into the car no movement. And also like he stated the stud was not competly broken off meaning it was acting as a pin which is supported by the body. Also other dude driving over a YEAR with one missing beating the snot out of his car no problems.Like I mentioned I agree with you it would be nice to fix it but not the end of the world if not. I really hate getting into it with peeps online and would rather be friends with you because I have seen many posts by you and you seem like a nice guy and a good person on this site. Holds out hand.

"YEEEEEE HAWWWWW!"

***Just some good ole boys... never meanin no harm...*** :D

Those nuts are around 28 ft-lbs to tighten fully. That big mutha down the bottom of the shock is another story though! :D
