F*ck... question on spring install...

So, I'm installing springs right now. I just finished the first one (drivers side front.) I was tightening the last nut (one of the 4 on top of the shock tower) and broke the efiing stud. :mad:

Think I can leave it with 3 until I get a new stud put in? Are they easy to swap?
 
I would say 3 would hold it no problem till you can fix it. Some cars only have 2 and or 3 up there so no biggie.

You may need to buy the new shock cap.
 
yeah, new shock cap, 3 should be fine unless your planning on hitting the track anytime soon. what kind of springs???

That was my thoughts on it too. I checked and I should be able to put a bolt in there. Probably going to wait til tomorrow though.

The ones with 3 studs are spaced evenly apart in a triangle for proper weight and pressure placement. I never saw two studs.

You would temporarily be ok but dont go off tearing around and what not in the meantime.

Dont f*ck around with something as vital as suspension.
 
WTF? I told you outright pickle smooch! Its fine for now but replace the cap asap so it doesnt prematurely wear down other parts.

Oh, and FYI, the seat on the front springs is smaller than the rears. If you look at the opening at the bottom of the coils, you can see the difference in diameter.
 
then I must have lucky guessed my way. Id have to assume if they are different sizes then they only fit one way and I got mine first try
 
What is with some of you guys. This is not rocket science here. The shock/spring assembly is always pushed up into the car by the weight of the car. The only time those really come into effect is tire dropping down into huge pothole or doing "dukes of hazzard" jumps getting air. No damage can be done leaving one of the nuts off. If the assembly can't move it can't move plain and simple. Now I know from last posts someone some where will pick out one thing about my post to dig on like "well they come into affect over speed bumps too." Yes 3 are in triangle form thats common sence and if you never seen 2 that just means you never seen every car in the world. I'm not saying leave 1 cylinder headbolt out here which seals pressure. How many times have you driven a car with a lug nut missing? Rim is under extream side pressures trying to rip rim off and way more dangerous. Now I will feel bad for posting this.
 
if the broken stud is bothering you, have someone weld one up for you unless you can do it yourself or if you don't have a welder and you can weld you can buy one and return it at the store
 
do it by the book, cuz heaven forbid you drive like that.

Right On the Mark...id say you might be right lol. he might be planning on getting some huge air though.

Chill the f*ck out and stop being irrational. There is nothing wrong with doing it the proper way and reassuring safety.


Maybe you should remove one stud from each for the hell of it just to prove your irrational point.
 
What in my post is being irrational. Maybe you should F off. I never said leave it that way. But it will hold on for EVER. You must be a rocket scientist to know that everything that takes 4 bolts will self destruct with only 3. WOW And i'll qoute what you said which is same as what I said but I guess when you say it, it means more?? Yep.... just like rolling on tires down to the wear bars, or letting your oil go down to the low mark... just because it MIGHT be ok doesn't mean I would do it....
 
He is right though. You don`t need the 4th bolt. But I would fix it because im anal like that with my lincoln. But if it was another car I wouldn't think twice about leaving it.
