So, my extended warranty (non Ford) has paid for itself nearly 3 times over for what I paid for the coverage.
I had just taken my 2006 Lincoln LS in for it's oil change at the local Ford dealer. Later that day, I experienced an 'ECT failure' alert. I stopped the car, restarted and everything was OK. The next day, it happened again. As this is my daily driver and I also have a 5 year old daughter I transport, this car needs to be reliable.
I brought the car in for what I expected to be a bad coil or 2. After bringing it in to my local Ford dealer, they indicated that the throttle body had failed a test and they replaced it ($800 part). Before I picked it up, they said it had the ECT alarm again and they would re-test it again. This time, they came back and said it was coils (3, 4, 6, 7, and 8). I had 1, 2, and 5 replaced already within the last 6 months.
I also had them look at a 'popping' noise I was hearing in the front suspension/steering. They previously had said nothing was wromg. After it was all said and done, they replaced:
With a finishing 4 wheel alignment, my 'warranty' covered the $4100 repair (less my $75 deductable).
With what I could have paid "out of pocket", I am seriosly looking at getting another extended warranty, a Ford ESP warranty (they now sell these for used Fords/Lincolns). My existing warranty expires in 100,000 miles and I can get an ESP warranty if still under 100,000 miles (I am 8000 miles from that).
