M getting sick of how loud my car is so I'm thinking of putting some quieter mufflers on with cutouts so it can be loud when I want it to be was wondering if anyone knew of any mufflers that sound good but quiet and also wondering if I put on cutouts should I put them before or after the xpipe

Any chambered muffled will be quieter than nothing. The FlowMaster D40s have a very nice sound, but I also like my Magnaflow Bullets.
I'd put your dump valves post X

I believe mufflers are a personal preference. But as for cut outs I like Drillers set up.

Yeah I have Lincoln motorsports on it right now I don't wut I'm gonna end up doin though cause I just priced out all the parts for wut I want to do and it's already a little over 700 and I'm not gonna do the work myself other than wiring the cutouts

Magnaflows are really quiet. Even with headers and an X I think they are your best bet if you want quiet (but still GOOD sounding) exhaust plus that cutout when you really want the noise.

I really doubt cutouts will add any horsepower over high flow mufflers on any of these cars that are close to stock.

More noise certainly.

Have you thought about just replacing the X with a X-muffler, but keeping what you already have in the rears? An x-muffler will help with resonance.

I agree 100%. No need to replace everything or even both mufflers. I have the LMS set-up (with slightly different mufflers). I like my sound, but to make it quieter go with a X-Muffler. It will still sound good at WOT.

How much 'noise pollution' does your car emit?

Sidenote, I love KS, home of the straight pipe redneck 350 pickups, cops don't care :D

Hey moss, I'll be down there within the month in Overland Park picking up another Mark 8 with a whistler on it.:D We should meet up if you are close!

For sure man. I'm about 2 hours out but would make the trip. You can even drop off your silver car while you're at it too:D

I also have a question. (not to hijack but)....i figured I don't need a whole new thread for this.

I am putting new pipe on my car where I removed the mufflers and straight piped them about 6 years ago with whatever I had laying about the house.

If I go with a large diameter, say, 2.5 instead of a 2 inch what would the sound difference be?
More raspy or more throaty. More drone, less drone? Which does what? I don't want to get the pipe,do the work and hate the sound. maybe someone with some knowledge could help?

Are you talking about running 2.5" pipe from the cats back? Typically once you remove the resonator and replace it with an X-pipe, that is where drone is born. With a set of headers, it is worse. If you go with a setup like this and still remain straight-piped, I think these cars sound too raunchy that way. Some sort of mufflers will make things a bit more musical and less dirty in my opinion. If you go the full 9 yards and then find you don't want the drone, you can soften it up by putting in an X-pipe muffler.

I'm not extremely informed about drone but has anyone tried the cutout tee that is closed to delete resonance? I'm looking for a alternative for my exhaust. I'm fine with the noise but the drone it produces is annoying. If anyone has information about tee cutouts it'd be great. I've heard a lot about it on the mustang forums.

The set up I run has ZERO drone.

i had the same setup kooks headers dbl x and LMS yea its loud, but i could never get sick of it i love the noise! im currently all stock on my new ride havent swapped anything over yet but i forgot how quiet they are. im gonna put the dbl x and mufflers on and run it like that until i build the new motor then put the headers back on, with the cams it just sounds evil

Increasing the diameter will produce a deeper, less raspy tone, but may increase drone.

You're referring to these, right? http://forums.corral.net/forums/10901984-post386.html

I've seen that done on a number of Mustangs, however I've yet to see anyone do that sort of setup on a MN12 or FN10.
