i went to a muffler spot today and they quoted me at 400 for resonators delete, 2 40 series flowmaster and also the cutting of my bumper so that the tips sit higher. does this seem like a decent price? i might be able to get some 40 series cheaper, which size do i need tho? i've seen people use different sizes. i was thinking the 2.5's. does that sound right? any help is appreciated

2.5 sounds right. I had 2.5 Magnaflows put on. I had to order the mufflers and then had them installed at another shop + delete the resonators.

194.37 = 2 Magnaflow mufflers
100.00 = Install and resonator Delete.

Not sure on the price of Flowmasters. I thought they usually came in a little cheaper price wise than that though... They must do great work.

I suppose they might be adding on to the price to take on the liability of cuting into your bumper. If they are willing to, see if you can come in and do the cutting. That's what I did. Brought my tools and did everything while it was up on the lift. $135 in labor/pipe. 150 for mufflers/tips. I wanted 2.5" from resonator back, but the guy already had 2.25" bent and ready to go when I got there, so I just went with that.

I would try to kncock some off but that sounds about right as long as they do a real good job with the cut on the bumper and clean it up nice afterwards. Is it just the valance that is getting cut or the bumper itself as well?

good luck!

I imagine the bumper itself too. That raises up the muffler to the proper height too. Here's a pic of mine I just did:

I would say as long as they do a good cut it should be worth it.

Do most Muffler Shops actualy take the request of having the bumpers cut to help with a good fitment?

Not a lot of them. It was my decision to modify the bumper. Muffler shop guy wouldn't touch it, only let me do it at the same time he was doing the mufflers/tips. That way I was assured proper fitment. The guy even helped out by dry fitting, made suggestions, etc. The other shops I went to for quotes wouldn't even let me do it while it was on the lift. They wanted me to do all the cutting somewhere else, then bring it in for them to throw the mufflers and pipe on.

He was pretty impressed at the result too. He told me most people don't put as much time and effort into their vehicles. Obviously he's never talked to any LVC members :D

yeah, he was going to cut approx an inch into the bumper to look pretty much like pektel, since we have similar tips. it still seems steep to me and i had some mufflers on ebay for 130 but someone snatched them up.

I have a shop in my area that will do almost anything. Its a performance and style shop. They do exhausts and other performance mods as well as body work. Places like this would be a great place to try to find a good price along with good craftsmanship. These guys would do the cutting on the bumper as well as fitting the exhaust. A place like this is just a suggestion if you have one in the area.

Seeing you live in the area you do it shouldnt be hard at all.

You're set on the flowmasters? The satin stainless magnaflows can be had pretty cheap. Like 140/pair shipped.

how's the sound on magnaflows? i don't want anything too loud. i want something more along the lines of a grumble. i love the sound of the CAI plus the KKM but just want it a little louder, and i was thinking doing the resonator delete might do it. but also i wanted to do the cutouts on the bumper and the guy told me to might as well do the the mufflers while he's at it

I actually wish it were a bit louder at times. At WOT, the engine is louder than the exhaust. But it's just the right amount of mean while retaining the luxury. I still have my resonators on. Video coming soon. Here's a link to one on youtube:

i was looking at these. do the inlet and outlet need to be offset or is it fine with the middle ones? also i would for someone with magnaflows to chime in about sound. i do not want anything that has that late type of rattle that i hear on some other cars when the gears shift. i don't know if you guys understand what i'm talking about. once again, i want something that is more of a sm growl rather than to just plain make noise.

Yep needs an offset outlet. I should've taken some pics along the way...

lol, sry forgot to add the link earlier. i was at work and wasn't paying attention. ok, so it does need an offset on the outlet part but not the inlet as far as what i see from under the car. also i see that are potential things that can get in the way of cutting out part of the bumper. how did you avoid that? and also, was the rear valance jeopardized at all when you cut some of it's support?

these are specs i got from the 40 series flowmasters. as i said earlier i looked under the car and saw that the inlet was in the middle while the outlet (closest to the bumper right?) was offset. but on the specs it says that the inlet is offset while the outlet is centered. can they be reversed? i want to get these mufflers while they are still offering them at the price i'm willing to pay. anyone with knowledge on the subject please chime in

* Part #: 42541
* Inlet: 2.5" Offset
* Outlet: 2.5" Center
* Overall Length: 19"
* Body Length: 13"
* Body Type: 4" x 9.75" Oval

The only thing that was even remotely less easy (I can't in good faith say it was the least bit difficult) was where the valance and bumper came together. a jigsaw worked very well, as long as I took my time. I only used the dremel on the straight cuts on the lower valance. All the rest was done with the jigsaw. Then touched it upwith a sanding wheel on the dremel, and finally with a set of curved files once I got home.

Ther rear valance is still sturdy. There are still screws that hold it on, along with some clips to keep the gap tight. I'm not going to go yanking on it to test it though ;)

Should have got the jig setup for the dremel tool. Thing is amazing. I used it to make a window in my kids PS2 slim so we could see the insides. Just some Off topic FYI. :)

I have it. Oh, wait, I have the attachment for cutting outlet holes in sheetrock. I liked the bigger jigsaw myself because I could use 2 hands to keep it steady, and with the thicker blade I was able to cut pretty straight. How long are the blades on those jigsaw attachments? The jigsaw I used barely made it through where the valance and bumper come together. Good idea though, if someone had that attachment and didn't have a jigsaw.

Its not big at all but they are pretty cool. I was ust thinking about the valance itself again. I need to fix mine up since I got one of those kits where the tips did not match up right and fell short melting the valance a bit so the valance for some reason is all that comes to mind for me at first.

Yeah it takes pracitice with a dremel to keep it straight without the ability of using two hands.

Here's what mine sounds like on start-up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaSh7JF0jkg

I have pics of the mufflers used in my photo gallery.

Hope that helps.

that sounds great at idle NYC. love the license plate led's. i remember another member had recommended some to me but i think they were like 30 bucks. which did you go with? and also, do they stay on dimly when the car is turned off?

Yeah they do...for a little while. but I've never had a problem with the battery draining or anything. I got them from, I think, LSKoncepts. I can check later tonight when I get home for sure.
