Engine overheat

i was pulling in at school and my engine overheat light came on and the engine was smoking. I just got back and i saw that my engine coolent was empty so i filled it up. Does it take time for the coolent to go through the pipes and how long. Also i was looking at my radiator liquid and it was brown is that normal. What other things should i check for.

you need to take it in for service. I THINK the factory coolant is orange or pink...but not brown. Sounds like you MAY have a bum head-gasket

i think it was an orange color it just looked brown in the container but i found a problem. I have a leak in one of the hoses. Hopefully thats all there is and nothing to major.
