EGR delete

in the process of installing some cobra exhaust manifolds. Was planning on eliminating the EGR. What is invovled in doing this? Just trace back where the tubes go a plug the ports? I know I need to have the EGR turned off with my tuner.
 
Remove the EGR valve and install a delete plate. Cap the bung in the exhaust manifold.
 
Just have mine turned off. Once that is done it won't function so less work to do.
 
what is the point of having the EGR valve removed?? kinda hard to pass inspection with the EGR valve not on.

Some places don't have inspection. In Michigan I ran my Mustang with no emissions on the car at all.
 
Why even disable the EGR? It doesn't hurt your performance in any way from what I've heard.
 
ah, im going to guess that the EGR clogs up the IMRC's and all the other stuff in the intake manyfold?

i have a 2004 ford excursion, and the EGR valve got so clouded up if filled my intake manifold with carbon... i now get 9 miles to the galloon and have a sumer of taking apart and cleaning my intake and heads.... thanks ford.... oh and need to replace the turbo cooler..... thanks again ford... (it has one of the bad designed 6.0L diesel in it)

The EGR and PCV systems are the leading contributors to gunk in the intake manifold and IMRCs. Dual intake ports with a single injector doesn't help.

EGR recirculates exhaust gases to reduce emissions and in doing so introduces carbon buildup. The PCV system removes crankcase gases and introduces oil misting in the intake.

Many people say the EGR allows for better fuel mileage, but that is solely because the engine is tuned with the EGR system. You can delete the EGR and maintain fuel mileage with a proper tune.

An oil separator or catch can can reduce intake deposits from the PCV system.
 
Monday I am replacing manifold gaskets, cleaning imrs's, etc. I was planning on replacing the egr at that time...would it make more sense for me to delete the egr with the stock exhaust manifolds and retune or replace egr now? I live in a emmisions testing state but it is a sniff test, gas cap test and I believe a mirror to check for convertors.

How much of a pita will it be to cork the bung hole? I have a sct chip, what does a retune cost? Down the road I may go to headers but most likely that will wait till this engine blows up if ever...also if I do keep the egr what are the best tips to keeping the system clean of all that junk?...seafoam? thanks for taking the time to answer.

As a daily driver, you may be better off with the EGR. As such replacing the EGR valve would be a wise choice.

Seafoam will help keep the intake clean but will not help the longevity of the EGR system.

If you do the EGR delete, you can simply use the nut for the steel tube to cap off bung. I had a plate welded over the top of the tubing nut. Or you can find a threaded cap and use it. If I recall correctly, they are metric and difficult to find.
 
thanks...I am going to replace the egr now then worry about it when the motor blows up...I keep trying but it won't blow up. I read you maybe coming thru Nashvegas for the power tour, if you do I would be honored to see the Blue Flame in person...thanks again.

Not sure the Blue Flame will be up and running for the Power Tour. But I do plan on being on the Tour from Nashville to Detroit. I have a backup if need be. :)
 
We have inspections in my county in Ohio. I deleted mine and still passed the inspection. As long as you're not throwing any codes on a car made after 1995 you pass. The only visual inspection is "sometimes" for cats.... and I've got high flow cats on mine.
 
I am in illinois. ODB2 cars are only only checked for codes. Many of the testing sites do not even have sniffers anymore. No codes, no fail. On John's stang we eliminated the cats, egr, etc. He threw some codes, but then did an electrical mod to trick the computer into seeing the cats which eliminated the codes.

caddyman I have tickets to the opry early but need a good druken night after that maybe a local can show me and my co pilot where the good bars are?
