Ebay torque converter anyone bought it?

junk..

the description has mention of some catch phrases that are missing key elements.

the "brazed impeller"..well of course they are brazed... notice he didn't say "furnace brazed" like all the reputable manufacturers do.

that's not the only one.. some simple research would instantly show the flaws in his descriptions.

ALSO... considering the nature of a TC install, gas tank out, trans out.. all that jazz.. I would not want to try and "save a few dollars" on a torque converter.
If a TC fails it will likely take the transmission out with it.. and on nitrous you could easily grenade the motor at the same instant.

With that said.. I posted this knowing that once I said "dont do it" you would instantly run over and hit the "buy it now button".
*grins*

All I can say is that you get what you pay for...

Many times.. when you "get a deal" you get FAR MORE than you paid for.. but usually it's "not good stuff" you wind up with.. usually it's alot of PITA problems that usually cost more than if you had "dont it right" the first time.

.. you know what I mean {inside joke smile)

like i said, run right over there and hit the "buy it now button".

hurry, there's only 5 left available.

i dont consider a $3-400 price difference "a few bucks"

If you cant read the description of that TC..and see the obvious flaws and words that are conveniently left out..

then you really shouldn't be picking apart my posts...nor should you be considering a TC purchase.

he sold a bunch of them and i dont see any complaints...?? i just emailed someone that bought one and im going to get there feedback.

I am fimilar with Direct Transmission parts.
I cannot speak of there tc,but I do know they are a large,
reputable company.
Let us know how it works out.

I've never heard of them but like XLRVIII said the labor involved in changing the TC and the fact that it will probably take the trans with it if it goes it's not worth the chance. The description shows it is not up tp par with the $500 and up TCs. $300-400 many be a lot but I sleep fine at night after a night of hard launches.

Problem with a cheap converters is that they may function perfectly for a while then poof no converter and probably your trans with it.
I built a late model 302 for a friend, pretty big bucks and he went cheap on the trans and lost it all on his third run at the track. Seemed to work fine, but a couple all out runs with NOS took out the converter and trans pretty quick.
Spend the couple hundred extra and get something your sure of !

cool - i dont think im going to buy one through ebay. I think i'm just going to get a new marauder one. there like 2800 stall right? little bit higher then ours?

For a stock replacemt the MM one is the way to go. Mach1 isnt bad. IS your trans/TC bad now? If that is the case and you really cant afford a couple hundred dollars for a good aftermarket TC then a MM one is a quality peice. If the trans is good and you are looking to upgrade don't waste the money. Put it towards something else or save a few more moths and spend the money on a good aftermarket unit. Most of them have better and more clutch material that makes a big difference under WOT lockup.

yea my trans is bad and ive been saving money and reading a lot through searched posts. i have 4.10's i like the idea of a higher stall... and with the trans coming out it would be a prime time to put in a decent stall.

i just still weighing my options with my transmission though and i can't decide whether or not to just have mine rebuilt or go with a 98 mark trans or 2002 gt.i got a good price on a 98 with the pke-ad stamp on it for 250 but they dont know how many miles on are on it. gt one is 350.

what does pke-ad even mean? why were there 2 different trans in 98?

If I ever go "cheap" for a TC it will be a MM or Mach 1. Price is low and its OEM so the chance of something going bad is remote.

I really wish I had put one in when the new engine went in but my budget was already over.

MM and Mach1 TCs are the best bet for OEM replacements.

Tell me when doing something on these cars is not over budget?

I went with a 3500 stall when the trans went and it was a bit much with the stock 3.07 gears. With the 4.10s its much more livable.

Don't waste your time with less than a 3500 rpm stall, anything less is pointless. The MM or Mach 1 converter is almost the exact same stall btw, you will notice no difference in stall between a functioning Mark converter and either of those convereters.

The pke code is bunk, don't listen to anyone who asks about it lol...

Those codes are the kind of things people who don't know aobut cars ask, the hollander sytem or any other interchange book will ask. All I know is that we dropped a tranny out a 97 into a 98 CE, and it bolted in and worked fine.

yea any 4r70w from a v8 will "work fine" but the fact of the matter is the 98 got updated parts inside and I want to make sure I get the one with the updated parts. And those changes only came with the 98 model year.

So in fact that 97 trans you put in doesnt have the mechanical diode and will have a greater chance of failure because of the roller one way clutch. So ive read.

im just assuming the stamp has the updated stuff and verifies that its a 98 mark trans and not a 97 or below that could be passed off as a 98. Meaning none of the other model years have a special stamp except for when you search for a 98 model year, so whats to stop people from selling you a 97 and older trans and saying its a 98?

ill take my chances with the PKE-AD stamped ones because I know itll be a 98. If I could decide to go with a 98 trans.

If your so concerned about getting the upadated one buy a trans out of an 00 Vic, or Grand Marquis... or an 01 Stang, they will all work.
