eBay Collectors Edition

I really do like that color! That is a lot of wear on the driver seat for 24k miles...and three accidents?

I saw this on autotrader recently and noticed the same thing about the drivers seat..way too worn to only have 24k miles..something doesn't add up..probably why it is for sale at a shady used car dealer, something is up.

My guess as to what happened is the car was either totaled because of age or heavily damaged and someone scavenged some parts. It was then bought by someone who fixed the damage and added the worn drivers seat. It is a common occurrence, I had an old beater Pontiac Sunfire with 10,000 miles on it that was from a similar situation and I replaced parts.

eBay does say it has a clear title. Something seems up, though.

carfax it and ask the dealer if they offer a warranty on it and have it inspected by the dealer or body shop for accidents.

there's something up with that. Accidents: Issue Found- it had to of been hit at some point. and 24k and that seat is that worn, idk, my car has 90k and the driver seat don't look like that. I'd get a carfax

Oh and under the hood, where you see the black plate with Lincoln on it and nothing next to it, there's supposed to be another black plate that says Mark VIII

A car can easily have been totaled out and still have a clear title depending on circumstances such as titling in another state. Also in some states, you can have a car totaled if you own it, buy it back and still have a clean title.
Katrina flood cars were a large problem because the titles were showing up clear.

The AutoCheck on eBay shows it as always being a California car. I have heard about bouncing a salvaged title between states to get it clear, but was unaware that there were states that would total a car out with a clear title. What states do that?

I had it happen in North Carolina and Michigan on personal vehicles. I had cars totaled in both states but because I owned the cars, the physical title stayed clear. I do know that I have seen obvious flood and former salvage cars come through auction on a fairly regular basis when I was flipping cars. It did not become law to report totaled vehicles to the NMVTIS until sometime in 2009 which was after my experiences. I just ran this one through NMVITS and it showed the same thing as Autocheck.

There's a sucker born every minute.

Haha your comment reminds me of the movie true lies when Arnold walks by the vette on the used car lot and bill paxton peers through the blinds of his office..and says something similar to this.

I looked at this car twice. I live near it. this is one of those 3rd rate dealers. I also caleld the previous owner but she hung up on me. I also got a car fax. It was in at least 1 accident in 2008.

The good
It was a 1 owner california CE. It absolutly has 23K miles. That drivers seat picture is deceiving. The leather is rubbed up, but the foam is rock solid like it was new. The underneath and engine bay is PRISTINE showroom condition. probably never seen moisture. You can still see all the factory marks they make with paint pens and such. The engine bay has not a lick of corrosion. Every single part looks show room new. The chrome wheels are PERFECT. Even has the original tires with about half the tread. Drives perfect. Like it was new. I think it even has a traction lock. I stomped the gas and it did a nice fish tail. But it was cold and has old tires. Great power and throttle feel. The exhaust had absolutly no rust on it.

The BAAAADDD
the front fenders are not original. The bumber is likely not original. All three are missing the Vin labels. The front fenders are poorly hung with bad gaps. Over spray all over the underside from a rush paint job. Did not even mask off between panels or tried to blend the poor color match. parts touched up with a not 100% matched paint: front bumper, rear bumber, hell...every panel is touched up along the bottom. Pasenger's side mirror has a cracked housing and nicked up. B pillar trim scratched. passengers side door trim scratched along the bottom.passenger's head lighthousing has a huge gouge out of it and is not replacable. Some of the fender bolts are missing.

Too bad about the poor repair work. If the right person got it they could have a nice clean CE to fix. If I knew how to paint cars I would buy it for maybe $3K.

It could probably be parted out for more than they will get for it unless they hook a sucker.

Oh, the seats are dirty and poorly cleaned. I took a wet rag and cleaned a small spot to the point the leather looked new. When I went to this place they had cars up on jack stands in lobby being worked on. One was running.

The Carfax had an accident report on it from 2008. Then was sold at auction in Dec 2011. One owner up to that point.

here are a few pics I took. 2 other issues were the drivers headlight had alott of moisture, The HID bulb was loose so I reinstalled it....should have took it as a punishment for D-baggery. Plus, the lower drivers side of th winshield had frost on the inside. It was nut shriveling cold that day. Maybe they left a window open or maybe something worse.

haha beerdog, you beat me to it, I was thinking about making the drive out to downers grove to check it out as well..had today off but got side tracked with other stuff..oh well, i figured there was a catch to this car..why would a used car dealer like this sell a 23K mile CE unless there was something wrong with it..and voila front end accident, I almost want to call him out on ebay in the ask a seller a question section.

Is there a reserve on this? because it shows 5 bids and it's up to 7500 and doesn't say "reserve not met"..if someone pays that much for it they are going to be in for one hell of a surprise.

They were asking 7900. Notice all the pics are fro far away. Itw as actually being held at a so called "showroom" in Naperville across from the Nabisco factory. here are more pics..

They are probably bidding it up themselves. Who ever wins the bid is not going to be happy when they go see it.

That's too bad. From further away it looked like a pretty nice car. But, even in a few of those eBay pictures, you could see over spray on the lower front valance on the drivers side.

That thing was :q:q:q:qing creamed in the front look at the core support even from the factory the core support didn't have shiny paint on it like that . And the grill being black too on all the fins? I wouldn't go anywhere near it unless they were asking 2 grand
