Tommorow at 3 p.m i have an apt. to get some dynomatt extreme put in at my local stereo shop. For those of you that use, how much did you have to use sq. ft wise and where did you put it down at if you didn't do the whole trunk? Im only running 1 12'' kicker l7 in a ported box. i just want an idea before i go in tommorow
 
Dynamat is a really expensive option but if a shop is doing it, you might not really have an option. I love the FatMat I'm running in my '64 Riviera, roughly 1/2-2/3 of the cost of dynamat extreme depending on the quanities.
 
You reall wanna make sure they get under the carpet where the spare is too but I'm sure they want forget because they are getting paid by the inch.
 
i prefer fatmat, used both in cars and i prefer it over dynamat. thats why i did the whole car with it. also less expensive
 
I wonder if Lincoln would Dynomatt my LS?

My buddy has an Acura TL and he took it to Acura and complained of rattles from his factory sub, Acura then dynomatted his trunk at no charge!

I bet Lincoln would never do anything like that.....
 
they would never do such a thing, lol. i laugh but im serious. freakin' lincoln stealerships
 
i used dynamat extreme and original for my trunk and it really wasnt that pricey....i bought it off ebay. get the trunk kit. i did it all myself and it was super easy but slightly time consuming (1.5-2 hours). the only problem i had was taking the old crusty fatmat out (dude that owned the car before me had it in there). i basically took the carpet out and layered the trunk lid, the spare tire well, and the side walls in the trunk itself (by the tail lights). i can definately tell the difference...im running about 2k amps in that trunk. i love the set up...and it seems better than the fatmat that was in there...probably because it was old though.
 
and i used dynamat extreme door kits for all 4 doors...that made a huge difference too with my door speakers. music stays in the car for the most part...and keeps road noise out.

I haven't done my LS yet but I install for a living for high end clients. We usually strip most of the car down to metal and sound deaden it all when someone is getting a sound system installed. It can become pricey but if you are only doing the trunk then you should be fine.

...and yes, the difference is night and day plus it doesn't sound like a monkey with some empty cans trying to get out your trunk. Make sure they do dehind your tag too.
 
I used dynamat. Make sure you get it underneath the trunk lid, behind the plastic piece around the rear of the trunk, and on the bottom. I have not used fatmat, but have heard good things about it. I know that with dynamat, I often get compliments on how my system is so loud and does not sound like a hoopty. Another thing you need to do, is put a piece of foam padding, or rubber padding behind your license plate. If you have a license plate holder, take the time to cut out a piece for between that and your license plate also. I love going to car shows and just because a donk's trunk is about to fall off the hinges, they think it is loud, until they put it on a meter.
 
okay so heres the update.. I'm kind of upset with what happend, i went in they only used a wedge kit $40 and a license plate kit $20 and 2 hours a labor at $50 an hour. came out to be 170... I went in the back to check it out and the guy that was doing it showed me where he was putting it, he did the complete 6x9 rack in the back and the lid. He may have put some on corner pannels and under neath but if i did he didn't do all of it considering such a small $40 package.. it does sound alot better but i was banging it on the way home and got outside of the car and def still has a little rattle to it but not as bad. Guess im gonna have to do the rest myself, at least he did the 6x9 rack which would probably have been the most difficult.
 
OT (sort of): it sounds like this application of dynamat, or approved equal, is being put in place mainly for stereo purposes. If I wanted to isolate road noise from the cabin where would I put it? Just the doors, B pillar and on the seat back inside the trunk? This might be dumb, but where, exactly is the sub located? Obviously I don't want to isolate that from the cabin.
