Hittin the dyno tomorrow about mid afternoon to get a semi baseline before I get into some kind of boost. Itll be untuned with the K&N intake, f150 throttle body which isnt really much and my custom SLP exhaust.. 3 pulls for $60 so I couldnt pass it up..
 
Alright Im a little upset at the results but considering Im untuned and had a 12.57AFR as the highest I think all in all I made some good power..

Did 3 runs, the last one was the best so I printed off that sheet. I made 239.35 @ about 6100rpms. Max torque was 232.53 @ about 4950

Ill be going back after a tune or I might just do it while Im there, that or Ill go back after Im boosted. I just wanted a baseline..
 
Well, you knew it would be off with the mods being uptapped not having it tuned for them. Would have been nice for them to have that deal before you did any of the mods. Look at it this way, a proper tune should show a massive increase :D
 
20hp from a tune is not massive.

The upgrades without a proper tune have most likely taken away a bit of the power. Once he gets a proper tune, it should bring him back up to where he started + the improvement from the upgrades. With the baseline being taken with the mods and no tune, the initial increase he sees after tuning should be more dramatic.
 
That's actually a pretty good pull concidering the auto tranny eats up quite a bit of power. Rifleman why would you think he lost some power with his current mods?

From my experience, most lose a bit of punch until a tune is in place. Although my modification and tuning experience is limited to other FLM vehicles.
 
I would like to disagree. I think with his minimal mods that he has, he has made the stock components work together more efficiently. I don't believe the truck TB would be a factor in this because it's still a stock 70mm size. Now if he got into porting out the heads, gasket matching the intake, changing injector size then he would probably be losing power because the computer is set up for stock ratios and wouldn't be able to keep up with the new excess air coming in and that's when a custom tune would need to be done to ajust all the new factors. That's been my experience on the cars I have worked on at least.
 
I think the stock PCM would be able to deal with it considering I was running pig rich, couldnt stay above 12:1AFR until 4100rpms and the highest I got was 12.57:1 AFR
 
right - the stock PCM should have been able to deal with it - as your AFR indicates, the slightly more air did not lean you out.

@ 239rwhp - you would be close to 289hp crank - right? (about 18% loss is what we are seeing...)

so - that is not much gain over stock, should see more form a k&n filter.
 
Those numbers are about what mine was tuned, I had some serious issues at the time and I'm sure I would have higher numbers now, I should go back for a good baseline.

When mine was dyno'd I had a gallon of extra tranny fluid (that couldn't have helped), a hole in my intake, and leaky VCG's, and foulded burnt plugs.

my results were 228hp 236tq.. my a/f was 13:1
 
My filter has 20K miles on it too, I was gonna clean it but couldnt find a recharge kit for the life of me.. Its all in good fun tho, Ill go back after I get a tuner, do another baseline, then do a run with the tune to see what power was made and where.

Was a DynaPak, I think it's called. The one where they take the rear wheels off and bolt the machine to the hubs.
 
So theoretically on say a Mustang dyno or dynojet do you think youd have lower results since you would have more rotational mass to move?
 
Yes, but from what I was told, DynaPaks are more accurate? Who knows. The numbers are/were what they were. I've given up on trying to make the LS fast - especially since it's my most of the time daily driver. That's what I have my Tahoe for. :D
 
Not me. LS is going to be my fun car. Too bad I picked one that is so damned expensive to modify. Just need to pick up something different to drive while the LS is taken apart.
 
The Mustang Dyno is a 'load cell' dyno which typically yeild lower number than the Dynojet - but most would argue the numbers are more 'real'.

Mustang Dynamometers are unique. All Mustang Dynamometers are loading dynamometers designed to duplicate real world operating conditions. Our patented control system uses eddy current power absorbers to load a vehicle exactly the way it would be loaded on the street -- including wind resistance, which is a significant factor in high-speed testing. Mustang dynos also feature a load cell to measure the power being applied to the rolls. Without going into a lot of theory, a Mustang dyno gives you a real world tune, every time.
