DTC P0232 fuel pump

It makes it a lot easier if the tank is empty though. :)
no such luck; I guess I need to figure out the best way to siphon the fuel...into one of my other cars...the factory manual says to start by draing about 2 gals from the in-line fuel filter.....do I really need to do that?

I had to syphon some gas out of my '96 Mark one time and I just used a garden hose pushed into the filler tube. It was a tight fit but it worked. My yard has a slope and I just put a gas can at the bottom of the slope and drained the gas into that. It took about 20 ft of hose to do it. But it is possible.

the 96 has a FPDM? i did not know that.
so do they also use the new style pump like the gen2 as well?

yea uhhh, I'm not so sure it does have one :shifty:...
I can't find '96 FPDM listed in the Fact Serv Man or the EVTM...'FP Module'...yes, as part of the FP assembly

Super Fyre, where did you get that schematic? >..<
from this TCCoA post on a '97 M8?

Chris, in shopping for a new one, it looks like the same FP works in 93,4,5,6

super? Fyre. Nope, ne'er been to Super School
I went to school to learn how to make things go BOOM

Yup, copied the schematics from the other thread

well, that simplifies things then...I won't waste time looking for Bigfoot, I'll just start draining fuel tonight after work, jacking up and turning bolts tomorrow

You got a test lead? Just unhook the pump at the harness (passenger front of tank) if you look up between the tank and the floor you'll see the harness.. run a - and a + directly to the pumps lead

Or just drop the tank and get it over with.. because that's Normally the issue (bad pump) especially since you've claimed to run low fuel levels

I don't have a 12v supply test lead, I could measure the car's line voltage to the device, which surges as soon as the key is turned to START?

I swapped my pump out in the 94 while it was in the garage. Had the whole car setting up on jack stands and I used the hydraulic hack and a piece of wood to lower and raise the tank. Really wasn't that bad of a job. That's if you really want to see exactly what you're doing but it can be done by just lowering the passengers side down far enough to get to it.

You keep mentioning the inertia switch. Did you press it back in to see if it was even tripped?
inert button is down;
some posts I've read talk about dropping exhaust..that's just if I completely remove the tank from the car?

Remove the rubber hanger, just behind the tank, and the bolts for the mufflers, remove the cross brace and let it hang. Then drop the tank onto the pipes

stuck a hose down the fuel tank filler pipe tonight but got no siphon;
the service manual at 10-01-6 says to disconnect fuel tank vent tube at the in-line fuel filter (passenger wheel well) and insert hose into tank from there, then drain 2 gallons ; next disconnect fuel tank filler pipe, insert hose into tank from there and siphon remaining fuel.
----damn, really?

Bah, remove the lower end of the filler hose from the tank inlet spout. Just loosen the screw clamp and slide it up the hose a few inches and tighten it down enough to make it stay put, then use a large pair of channel lock pliers and grip the hose where the clamp was and twist it a bit to break the seal then remove the hose.
If you've got enough cash laying around to make your life a tad easier and not get a fuel fume headache, go get an inline fuel pump at the parts store for about $40 and a couple feet of hose for each end of it. Or you can get one at a salvage yard for just a couple bucks if you know the trucks to take them off of

this morning, my car was on the driveway.....I lifted the front LH too much and the jack at the rear RH took off!!!
yes, that's my 3 ton jack by the rear RH wheel..turned up, wedged, repairable
that 17'' tire was under the passenger door for safety; the car was lifted about 12'' when it shifted off the driveway

Dang it!

tow truck on the way, try again on the flat spot

Tow truck? You can't just move the white one out of the way and push the brown one? Don't you have 1 friend to help give a shove?

And go buy at least 2 jack STANDS..don't EVER trust a jack to hold the weight with you under the car

towing is free with insurance, probably couldn't push it forward b/c the jack was holding it up...but then it would just be further down the hill/slope, now it's moved and onto the flattest spot I have...new cotter to repair jack, try again...drill pump siphon

I have noticed that everyone's that took a crap is with a full tank. Same thing happened to my 95 bird just filled up to go to work and bam pump dead. Went with a walbro 255 replacement pump. Did it myself took about 3 hours with the car on 30in 7 ton jack stands much easier with it that high. Had to jack it up use smaller stands get a 8in think block of wood and jack it more to get the big boys in. Was easy with it that high. I don't mean to jack this thread but are the gen 2 pumps just the pump different than the gen 1 and tbirds?

back in action (thanks for the tip on max lift 1sik)
P2160146_zpsc23bb3a5.jpg

high...but high enough? rear stands are 6 ton 24''..not maxed out yet, maybe get more with a 8x8 block?
P2160147_zpsd21a29e7.jpg

the front stands are 2 ton and they are maxed out

That might just be enough that seems adaquate to pul tank down and slide out with a jack, my only concern is that lean I would but the jack on that driver side in the middle on the pinch weld.

it took awhile but I got the tank (mostly) drained; that cheap plastic Drill Pump failed after draining about 7-8 gallons-inside fins broke down/deformed from the gas; I found a HD one that doesn't deform with exposure to gasoline; used a clear 1/2'' tube to go in the tank, and (2) 7/8'' hoses that mated up to the larger drill pump
P2160149_zps90c46609.jpg

That's a very not good idea using a drill for that.. you ever look inside the cooling vents as one is spinning? LoL

yea, it was arkin/sparking up a storm....oh well, tools are meant to be used...it's what I had at the time...I pulled that short rubber hose between the gas tank and the filler neck; if I wanna replace that hose, what should I use? will std coolant hose work ok?

Depends, you wanna drop the tank again when the float fails? Or buy the whole basket and call it a day?
