I found a 1 pc at an Auto salvage yard, will it fit in my trunk?

Should I look into getting it balanced for 4.10s or will it be okay?

That it will fit in the trunk.

And aftermarket driveshafts seem to be the only way to go with the big gears.

Ive tried both a stock one piece, and an MMX driveshaft, and nothing comes close to the MMX. I know others have had good luck with the 93 one piece unit, but not me.

I have em in all 3 of my VIII's
MMX is worth every penny.

I dont have 5,000 pennies to spend on a driveshaft, so I am going to try my luck with the 93. Thanks for all of the input though. If it doesnt work out for me I know where to go.

$520.00 for a drive shaft? Couldn't you get a custom one built for less than that? That seems very pricey.

If you did you would still be 47000 pennies short.

There is a reason. the VIII driveshaft is VERY long, and a standard aluminum shaft is too flimsy to allow high RPMs inherent with a gear'd VIII. when you get a stock shaft up to speed it will actually start spinning offof it's centerline causing one hell of a vibration. It can be bad enough to break rearends, and I have seen them break tranny extension housings.

the MMx shaft is not only LIGHT, but it's stiff enough to NOT go nuts and vibrate at high speeds, and rugged enough to transmit the torque needed to drag the whale off the line and not break.

worth every penny.

The 93 one piece is definately worth a try as long as the junkyard isn't charging out the ass for it.

What about using a thunderbird driveline? I know it's not aluminum but wouldn't it work? Besides being lighter, what is the advantadge to an aluminum driveshaft? I have never had a problem with a steel driveshaft before.

From what I've read, the MN12 driveshafts are just as bad. The 93 one-piece is in demand with the MN12 guys as well. They have the same vibration troubles that we get...

Well this junkyard happens to be charging $75 for it :)

That's a pretty good price; as long as it is the driveshaft specifically from a 93' and not a driveshaft that happens to fit 93-98 years.

That is a custom shaft by the best in the business? You think thats expensive? LOL! It's a carbon composite metal matrix shaft. The stock JUNK one retailed for $970.00!!!!!

evilally has a VERY good point. The 2 piece shaft LOOKS like a one piece except for a 1/2" grove at the joint at the rear of the shaft where the 2 ends are pressed together. Make sure that your new unit does'nt have this.

Side note, thats the MMX shaft I put in the 98 sitting next to it.
