next weekend i am doing a rear gear swap on my 98 mark, what i want to know if i can remove the drive shaft out the back with the third member removed ,just want to replace the u-joints,anybody done this?thanks

The driveshaft will slide right out with the differential housing out of the way.

Make sure you match mark both ends.

foxlincoln, try doing a search under u-joints. There was a response from Roadboss with a link to u-joints. That might help you. I have no personal experience to help you with. Good luck. If your search doesn't bare fruit, try asking someone like Jamie in Fl. or the KustomizingKid. I also don't know how to move links around to this screen. Good luck. Gary in Elmira, NY.

When I took mine out I had to drop the gas tank a little bit too. No big deal tho. The subframe for the rear was in the way and the gas tank wouldnt let it clear.

I've removed the drive shaft both ways...

On the cars I've parted I've pulled the carrier and slid the shaft out. The two shafts I've pulled at the junkyard I dropped the tank. Since you have to take the carrier out to get new gears it would make sense just to slide the shaft out...
