We have a 1998 Mark Viii LSC, love it. The driver side mirror has hazed over making it pretty useless. I found a replacement but I am still confused about a couple of things.

Here it is http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/97-9...r_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43a2500891

Does the old Mirror have to come off it isn't broken, if not will the heat still get to it to take ice and snow off? I couldn't quite tell how to apply it, they talk about adhesive strips which sounds like it would be put over the old mirror. We will only be using it another month or so, we store it for the winter.

Any help will be appreciated, thanks,
Barry

Barry,

The replacement mirrors come with two double sided tape discs to hold the new mirror to the old mirror ! Only a small amout of heat would be transfered to the new mirror !

Good Luck,
Sonny

Send me $30 and your mirror, and I'll send you a "fixed" driver mirror. I take them apart and clean all the haziness out. It will no longer dim (yours will no longer dim ever again anyway), but it will still heat perfectly fine and will be clear as day. You could send me yours after you got the one I send if you needed to. I've done close to 10 of these now. They come out great.

It'll look completely stock too. Not like the stick-on ones. Those look really bad to me.

OldRelayer, I would suggest you try 98Lincmk7lsc deal. He does great work and you will have heated mirrors still. I had him do my cup holder for my 97 and they turned out great. I'm sure your mirror would turn out great especially if he has done 10 of them.

Hey man, thanks for the recommendation. I was really pleased with the way your cupholder assembly turned out. I really wish I had taken before and after pics. lol. Oh well.

As for the mirror, I've sold a couple on eBay and a couple on here and the rest were locally. It seems like most of the Marks in this area have the haziness in the mirror. I use it as a conversation starter, that usually ends up with me doing some mechanic work for them, and me with a little extra spending money to put towards my car. :headbang:

Here's a picture of the mirror you would be getting if you decide to do this...

And I'd like to continue to offer this service to people, so if you would send me yours after you get this one, I would appreciate it.
Let me know if you wanna do it.

Is there a writeup anywhere on how to fix the haze in the mirror like you've been doing? I'd like to take a crack at it myself. I have the same problem.

I tried explaining to someone before and they ended up rendering their mirror useless. I would much rather just have you send me yours. I don't think $30 shipped is an outrageous price. If you promise to send me yours afterward, I'll do it for $25.

wow thats nice work man, if youre wanting more mirrors i could send you a couple sets Gen1 and Gen2 so you can have some in stock, i get them fairly cheap

I'll have to go see what it takes to rip this thing out then. I got a handful of odds and ends to pick for the interior as I tackle and weird intermittent trannie prob. Just grabbed the 98 LSC two days ago. The front page over here seems to be a bit cluttered up with..... useful posts. I'm all about the tech posts after having ventured over here from my regular forums for rockcrawler suspension building and motorcycle building as well as other various things. The crowd over here seems to be pretty chill and has a handful of really knowledgeable guys. I'll use the search function judiciously. Thanks for offering this service. Ill get back to you asap.

Outside mirrors are $22 each, any version, any vehicle that's out there, lemme know how many ya want

That's for just the mirror glass only? If so, that's a bit more than I'd rather pay for them. I can hardly ever get $25-$30 as it is. I'd have to charge more at that price. Thanks for checking though.

That is for the entire housing, mount, mirror,Heating elements and LEDs if included ....everything

hmm....now that's not too bad of a deal...I'll have to think about it. Would you be able to get just the glass? I know some yards don't like to separate, but also that some don't care...

I'm pretty sure it's the same price if you take just the glass or the whole thing. Its a u-pull, so they have a generic price list for all the parts, doesn't matter what it comes off of...
For instance ..
Intake Manifolds - $32.95, could be off a 96 Cobra or a Geo Metro....same price

You're more than welcome to steal for yourself :p only thing I walk out of there not paying for is fuses/bolts/lug nuts, because they don't charge for small stuff like that

but i've gotten a free torque converter/coil pack/water pump/ps pump because I just didn't take it off the motor I bought...and they didn't bother charging me because I told them it was all garbage and would be thrown away anyway

I normally don't get charged for little stuff that would fit in my pocket. I go there often enough now that they recognize me and give me deals. They're probably just happy that I didn't stick it in my pocket.

Well this is a small town yard...people remember faces 'round here, and since I'm a commercial buisiness Id rather keep things friendly and legal...that...and I'm not a thief
