double layer window tint

Hi there, I am a professional window tinter, been in the business for 6 years (time is the wrong question here) I have tinted over 5000 vehicles in Kansas. I would agree with andrizzle, but would give my advice, one of the reasons why some shops deny doing the job is because of the warranty issue, many film distributors have film-to-glass policy, where it states that they cannot guarantee that the film will adhere properly if you tint over existing film, other than that is your choice, sometimes it is much easier to tint over existing film because you dont have to worry much about how clean it is, since the first layer is what is most important.

personally I dont like to tint over existing film because it 'might' peel sooner, but when the need for darker film is the issue that is the only choice, so good luck.

Maybe i should start reading the whole thread before posting a reply :)

Tinting your windshield is just dumb and dangerous.

FALSE. while not THE safest thing to do, it decreases the glare effect you have while driving in the rain, therefore, ACTUALLY making it easier to see at intersections, on-coming traffic, and heavily congested areas. Dont believe me? Next time its raining during the day, put your sunglasses on...has the same effect and you wont have to spend a dime to see whether or not im right.

No worries, I was taking the 'greed' approach to the business. And you all took the professional.

lol. Great information guys!

now who wants to tint my windshield?! :D

got my windshield done 50% today its not as dark as i thought it was gonna look but i can def see the difference driving at night ill post pics tommorow =]

So is it like driving at night with sun glasses? I say it's not but many people seem to think 50% on the windshield is real dark and dangerous.

not really i just see less glare and the inside of the car seems darker but i dont think its that dark that its like wearing sunglasses

No, 50% on the windshield isn't dark at all. The tint just decreases the glare value from head lights, steets, sun, etc when driving. I have always said, that if you wanna see what a tinted windshield looks like, but a pair of sunglasses (not too dark) and put them on when its daylight and raining outside...it serves the same effect.

Standing in front of an LS w/o the windshield tinted and then looking in one WITH the windshield tinted you can certainly tell a difference(depending on whether or not the windows are up or down) for all inclusive purposes...roll them down on both cars (if you can find another) :)
