Double checking on parts needed for Cobra plenum.

I have a line on a 97 Cobra plenum and think I am gonna go get it cause its basically free if I help him with a KB install.

So I will get the plenum (upper/lower) and the IMRC. He is keeping his throttle body and his breather hose as well as his intake hose.

So if I understand the threads I searched for this morning then all I will have to get is new gaskets? Just to confirm, my T-body will work and I can trim my intake tube to fit as well? Looks like I will have to get the tube that feeds the IAC as well.
My existing EGR valve bolts right up too right?

Also there was some confusion about the IMRC plug. Is it different or is it the same? One person said its the same and someone else said its different. :confused:

Don't know about the EGR valve, I'm pretty sure it don't. I never used one on my Cobra intake installs.

It seems they are now doing visual emissions inspections in my area so I need the EGR opperational. If I have to get a Cobra EGR then thats no big deal. Hell I prolly have one in a box outside. I know I have a fuel rail back there. IDK I needed the Cobra rail for the EGR to work. I wonder if that will cause issues as I have always wondered why the Mark has two FPR on its rail. :confused:

As for the IMRC, IDK. I heard that the control box has a different plug on it. Its not an issue if it does but I would like to have all the parts on hand for when I do the swap.

Before I go adding nitrous or a blower I want to get 300 rwhp out of this thing N/A. I wish I had the know how to degree cams on these.
My Cobra made 287 rwhp and my buddy was killer at degreeing 4Vs so I let him have at it. Took him about 6 hours but he picked up 12 hp and gave me a beautiful idle afterwards. Unfortunatly he was killed by a drunk driver earlier this year. :(
 
That is what I thought. See Froggy, sometimes searching causes wrong info and confusion. :p

I know the 1st gen IMRC is different but isnt the 2nd gen shaped exactly the same as the Cobras only in plastic instead of aluminum?
 
Laser The egr isnt that easy to change to a cobra one. It would be easier to modify the mark egr to fit. You will need to use the cobra fuel rail if the egr is used due to the fpr will not fit.

The imrc controller is the same between the mark and cobra. The only difference is the location mounted in the cars. Use the the mark controller.

As for the intake tube I used a JLT piece. It works thats all I can say for it. I've seen the pics of people using the stock mark tubes and air boxes on blenderheads post? It would be a lot of plastic cutting and glueing. I just went back out and triied to fit it, its not gonna work on my car. The stock tube when connected to the TB on the cobra intake the other end is out over the radiator hose. Not even close.

To be honest I havn't seen any performance gains.(looks cool)
 
I just did this install today. I couldn't figure out any way to make the stock intake tube work. Even the cobra intake isn't a direct fit. What I did was use the cobra intake tube, and cut up the air box so the MAF can come farther out, then I hid a cone filter inside the stock airbox. For the IAC tube, I just used some 3/4" heater hose. Pretty much ever vacuum fitting is a different size, so you will be making a few runs to the parts store for adapters. Your TB will work, if flipped upside down, however you can't keep the cruise control if you do that. You will need to get a throttle return spring, cause the factory one is on the cruise control cable. If you want EGR to work, you will have to get the cobra fuel rails, cause the Mark FPR is in exactly the same spot the EGR valve has to go on the cobra manifold. I just made a plate to block mine off, I don't feel like dealing with that headache right now. Also if you use the Mark fuel rail, you will need to grind down on the manifold a bit right on the underside of the IAC because it hits the schrader valve there. Also, even with grinding, you will have to replace the cap that was on there with just a regular valve stem cap. Also, the TPS and IAT harnesses need to be lengthened. I think that's about it.

OK, I guess I will just block off the EGR and somehow cap off the lines. If it does not pass inspection (they dont sniff, only visual) then I will work on it. The place I bring it to says mune is the ONLY Mark VIII he gets in there so they would not even notice if it was not there I bet. :D
Now you say use the JLT tube but doesnt that go into the fenderwell and relocate the MAF meter? Or are you suggesting to cut it off at the box? And I assume you are referring to the 96-98 Cobra JLT. Do you have a picture? I bet the JLT looks nice in there.

The throttle body is gonna be an issue though as I use my cruise controll all the time. I have a 97 Cobra return spring and can make the bracket easy enough but I want cruise and thats a deal breaker on the intake. I wonder if I can use a Mustang cruise controll cable to make it work.

I realize the Cobra plenum is only good for mabey 5 hp on the car and I wouldnt waste the money but I was gonna help my buddy install his supercharger anyway so I figured since it was free I would use it. Besides, it looks kick ass but if no cruise then I am not gonna do it. :(

The JLT intake uses the stock maf and comes with the adapter to mount the air filter directly. The air filter will sit i the same location as th estock box, that will need to be removed. It does let a lot of hot air into th eair charge.:( If you can get some of the small pieces that are made from th ecobra you may be able to make the CC work. I didn't really look at that much. I don't use it and don't care if its working. A few other issues I had:
1)Fuel lines from the rail needed to be bent out away from the intake.
2)The FPR hit the intake at the egr. I cut off 1 inch from the intake. Then blocked it off.
3)The intake under IAC needed to be ground down to clear the valve on the fuel rail.
4)the hood rubbed on the top of the intake. I cut the small tab under the hood that was causing the issue. By the time I had noticed this it already scratch the intake. O Well

300 na? how are you going to do that?
 
I always thought this would be a good mod with a high stall and a supercharger because your switching the powerbad to really only top end. I know the mark has very little low end but whatever low end it does have comes from the design of the intake manifold.

I unplugged the IMRC at the selenoid and it keeps them open all the time - and the car is a turd downlow. Not sure what the cobra intake manifold does but i'm assuming you gain some more top end but suffer a bit down low eh?
