200 for OEM 60 bucks for this setup equals win win.

Did some digging on the internet, plus here and found that the Stant cap is best with the dorman bottle. The cap is 15 psi rated and from a few people online and a retired lincoln mechanic I know say this is the sure shot way to avoid the over priced OEM. Bottle. Per the mechanic the Stant cap is a direct revised version of the OEM.

Ignore everything that's been posted here and use the Dorman one. In a few months, you'll be replacing it with the OEM one, but only after wasting time and money trying to figure out what is wrong...

I'd be interested to know what this 'Stant cap" is, but the cap threads was only one of the issues with the Dorman bottle. It also seems that the thickness and maybe type of plastic used in the Dorman was not up to the repeated expansion/contraction that this item would get. I installed a Motorcraft OEM degas last summer and I think I will get 2 to 4 years of worry free service from it...maybe longer.

well that sure is interesting... you say the dorman bottle is good 2 go, but everybody here that has ever tried to use it had to to replace it over and over until they went OEM... there might actually still be one or two people who haven't had any problems (yet)

no thanks, I'll stick with quality parts I can trust in.

well your orignal lasted 7, why do you only expect so few with the next one?

I think the problem was that it couldn't hold the 16 psi like the OEM Bottle so the 15 psi cap would release pressure sooner and that's what's helping it last.

I was ready to bite the bullet on OEM but I just couldn't bring myself to pay 200 dollars for a piece of plastic that's going to fail period be it one year five years or 2 days. You have thought they would have made it out of the same plastic used on the radiator tanks. But that's a story in its self. And I think the dorman has a limited lifetime warranty at the box parts store. So I'll I just take the chance and pay my AAA UP. LOL

Also you would think by now, since the first record on the site was at least 3 or more years ago they would have revised the plastic seeing that so many has failed. If it last 3years that's great. If not I'm ok with that cause I like the LS I just want something a more up to date in the price range with more features. Been watching the Cadillacs and they are looking more and more like something I could see myself in. I took a leap with lincoln since buick can't find the right sporty euro look. And keep rear wheel drive.

What's the over/under on how long this Dorkman bottle lasts????

I had the car since 2010, but I guess it is safe to assume it was never replaced before I acquired the car. I guess I had heard some starting their 3 replacement, but if their cars were 2000 year models, I can see them hitting that 3rd round of repalcements.

I guess I was speaking too conservatively. I do expect it to last at or near 7 years.

From what I have read and was told about the same life span as the OEM GIVE OR TAKE.

that goes against everything I have ever read about the two, most seem to have problems around 100k-150k miles, mine is at 157k (it and the radiator are the only original plastic cooling parts left) and from what I've read, most are lucky if they make it 5k-10k before they start overheating again...

The issue is not the PSI or the cap, it is the fact that the Dorman bottle is NOTICEABLY made of thinner plastic causing it to fail even more prematurely than the Motorcraft one. The motorcraft one will also fail, but it will last 10x's longer than Dorman. Go ahead ask me how I know :)

Let me guess you bought one and it didn't last.

How long ago was it when you first purchased it?
Also what was the time frame of the failure?

Right now I know, OEM is the only way to go, I have looked online but can't seem to find one priced correctly for a 12 year old car, and can't see myself paying the dealer two hundred for this thing.

Dealer by me charged $145 with the hoses - no cap tho. Which was a very reasonable price at the time. Yes I bought a Dorman before I joined this site - not knowing better. It lasted short of 8 months and my LS is not my daily driver. It may have lasted 3-4000 miles. Some people have had greater success but the majority of people who have bought the Dorman have replaced it within a year.

Tasca, fordpartsgiant, etc. IIRC sell it for around $150.

I still have my Dorman, 3 years and close to 80,000 miles. If I knew they were junk before I bought it I would have went with OEM.

I was skeptical about Tasca, since a member posted about a data breach, and fords part giant, I couldn't get it to pull up. Will try again.

There shouldn't be a problem with Tasca as long as you order over the phone.
