Will a 97 door fit on a 96? Or will a 97 door window fit in a 96?

You will have to swap the inner door handle from your 96 onto the 97 door.

a 97 door will fit 96 but you will have to fish out the wire harness out of your 96 door and feed it back into the 97 door once its hung on the car, none of the wiring is the same, the regulator is, the glass is, the entire shell is, just the wiring and inner door handle is different.

Cool. So if all thats the same, the window vent shade/visor thing will work from a 97. I hate getting rained on but I hate smoking without a window open even more.

No, the mirrors are different. I think that is where some said they had problems with those things.

unity is correct, you could make it work but you will have to trim the vent shade because of the two different style mirrors.
