I know you guys have probably already been through this stuff, but I just got here. Anyone know how I can get the combination on the door without paying the dealer a hundred bucks?
its in the trunk...
and on the electronic module thingy too iirc..
You couldn't be more wrong.
Yea it is supposed to be in like 3 different places or something, and it is really on none.
AFAIK, it's on the car in the owner's manual, and no where else. The dealer scan tool can read it.
Of the 6 Ford's I've owned with a keypad, none of them had the code in the OM. There was always a plastic card that had on it the code printed. It used to on a "tag" affixed to one of the trunk hinges, bur Ford discontinued that. AFAIK, the only way to get the factory code is to have the dealer read it for you. Make sure they give you the factory code and not the personal code from the previous owner.
I'd had a few that had the code on a sticker on the trunk hinge.
Yeah I played this game when I first got the LS.
I posted to the forum and looked everywhere people said to look. Nothing. The only place that would be guraranteed is if you have the plastic "Credit Card" that is put in the pocket of the Owners Manual. But if you bought it used, who knows.
Places listed included the trunk, the Computer behind the glove compartment, etc. None of these had it. Only place I didn't look due to PITA was the module inside the drivers door. SO I don't know that one.
If you are a regular customer at your local dealer, you might be able to sweat talk the service manager into doing it free sicne it takes just seconds to get it with the computer.
BTW, Key fobs are easy to program yourself, the instructions are in the book. BUT you must have two programmed fobs to program another.
Also, you MUST HAVE at least 2 programmed keys in order to make new keys. If you only have one key, then only the dealer and some good locksmiths can program a new one for you. Never have only 2 keys or less. If you lose one of two, then you get to visit the dealer.
Good Luck,

2nd gen you DO NOT need two remotes to program others.
From the 2004 OWNERS MANUAL:
Replacing lost remote entry transmitters
If you would like to have your remote entry transmitter reprogrammed
because you lost one, or would like to buy additional remote entry
transmitters, you can either reprogram them yourself, or take all
remote entry transmitters to your authorized dealer for
reprogramming.
How to reprogram your remote entry transmitters
You must have all remote entry transmitters (maximum of four)
available before beginning this procedure.
To reprogram the remote entry
transmitters:
1. Ensure the vehicle is electronically unlocked.
2. Put the key in the ignition.
3. Turn the key from the 1 (LOCK) position to 4 (RUN).
4. Cycle eight times rapidly (within 10 seconds) between the 1 (LOCK)
position and 4 (RUN). Note: The eighth turn must end in the 4 (RUN)
position.
5. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that the programming
mode has been activated.
6. Within 20 seconds press any button on the remote entry transmitter.
Note: If more than 20 seconds have passed you will need to start the
procedure over again.
7. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that this remote entry
transmitter has been programmed.
8. Repeat Step 6 to program each additional remote entry transmitter.
9. Turn the ignition to the 1(LOCK) position after you have finished
programming all of the remote entry transmitters.
10. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that the programming
mode has been exited.
