Today I ordered a kit from dirty dog performance. We were talking for a bit and he asked me a few questions. I mentioned that im getting ready to do a posi and a 4.10 gear setup.

He asked me if i knew about dallas mustang and some other place that did like digital gages or something. I said white speedo gear. He then told me how those gears are not a good idea to use. so curious i asked him to educate me a little bit. He went on to tell me how after about 15k miles or so they start to break down spliter stuff like that and that it ends up in the transmission. causes problems and the sorts.

He told me manual people dont really have a problem with em but the automatics are more prone to troubles. thats why he suggested useing speed calcs or something of that nature. suggested i look up some articles about it at Tocca.

I'm curious most of my research ive done i havnt really come across any negative or any warnings like that. I was wondering if anyone here has had any issues with their white speedo gear after doing 4.10's how long have ya been using them. do ya know anyone that has. or have any more light that can be shed on the subject. needless to say ill be spending most of my night tonight digging into this. I really want 4.10 gears i just dont want to have to worry about some ish 20k miles later.

I ran the 'white gear' in my '93 with 4.10s for a long time with no problems.

I did heed the advice later when I got a built transmission and used a stock gear with a SpeedCal.

Thanks for the update. where did ya get the advice from. i cant seam to find anything on it at tcca in the tech articles ill probably have to sign up for the forums or something. if ya dont mind which speedcal did you use.

I was told dallas mustang and some other one that i cant remember for the life of me. all well im sure googling speedcals should yeild some results i guess.

Alan knows his stuff. It's been discussed in several forums even though I did not have issues.

I picked up one of the Dallas Mustang original SpeedCal's. I'm not sure if they still sell them but others are available and do the same. I use it with the 4.30s currently in the car.

Alan may know stuff but when I asked about my 93 trans he basically told me to get another tranny. He said he would not like to ship me parts as he concluded it was junk. I never quite understood what his point was and I'm not still sure why he decided why my tranny was not worth doing the J-Mod to.

I have what seems to be the common 1-2 shudder and I have all the parts to replace that and what I need for the J-Mod. I will do my own work and it all seems pretty simple actually.

I have a stand alone tranny cooler installed now and my slight shudder when she got hot is gone. I will still do the J-Mod in a week or so.

yea thats what im looking for is those discussions. id like to get clued in know what i mean.

in regards to the 93.

I just saw that posted in another forum. after reading around i dont see any reason not to use a speed cal. hell if i change tire size or anything. just flip a switch or two and im back on track.

im just undecided about the one to use. the dakota digital or the dallas speed cal.
