Lincoln Mark VIII

Ok I'm from ohio and I bought a 95 Lincoln Mark VIII with 124K with most options (no cdplayer) with a really nice interior nice paint and only minor rust (rear rocker panels). I only paid $1900 so either i got a good deal or this guy is crazy. What are your thoughts?

I recently bought a 94 portofino/portofino with 78K on for 1500. I did the filter adapter gasket, and it needs a rad (tiny leak at tank to core seal) accumulator fix and J-mod, lower BJ's and link bushings, front bags and now a compressor. Even tho I'll end up putting at least 700 in it wright off the bat I think I still did OK. So long as it doesn't need a bunch of work it sounds like you did OK

the air ride was replaced like 2-3 yrs ago i did the oil filter adapter gasket myself and i have to put upper control arms in it and had to put tires on it. the only thing that doesnt work on it is the cruise (had the recall done) so i guess ill need a clock spring eventually but the horn still works and the cruise lights up so im going to check it out a little bit before i change it. tires were the most expensive part but i put good tires on it cause i do a lot of driving and im not always at the speed limit :) but other than the interior is damn clean (both previous owners were women they must have taken care of the car) and when i bought mine it still had the window sticker and the little key chains from lincoln

unplug the brake psi switch (yes the one from the recall) jump the 2 wires, careful not to short it the one is "hot" and see if it works (careful it might not shut off with the brakes, just push off) if it works you need a switch

thanks i am working on it this weekend i mgiht have to try it im going to be kinda pissed if this is the case or if it is wet casue i just got the recall done sometimes ford is lazy and the tech that did mine didnt look like he was the brightest bulb in the box

as long as the switch is dry the recall was done correctly, we dont check the conductivity of the switch. the switches fail alot.

I would say it's an average price. I wouldn't pay anything if a car has rust on it. Then again, cars don't rust around here so when you do run across one people stay away. Where rust is the norm I guess it wouldn't matter.

They might start rusting if you keep getting snow:)

mine is just starting to rust I might get it fixed in the spring if it isnt too much hte underneith of mine is clean like it came from the factory

i buy them in similar condition for under a grand all the time so to me its high, but its what the car is worth i guess. i bought my 93 deep jewel green with 93k on it for 1700 last year for my wife. did front ball joints and brakes thats pretty much it!

i GOT MY 97 LSC FOR 3K w/125k. If you had gotten it for 1200 i'd say good buy. You didnt get robbed though. I'd say it was fair.

I paid 4k for my 98 Collectors Edition.... I thought it was a good price and that's all that really matters too me.

i wish i had pics of mine but its all dirty casue i had to drive it today and the roads are crappy :( but i got my control arms done and its to the alignment shop didnt try the cruise yet though there was a whole lack of motivation with me tonight

I paid 4900 for my 97 with 54,000 miles and since alot of prices on cars have come down because the economy, but if its your car and your happy with it thats all that matters.

My guy was asking 6 and it took me a year to find one (black on black, less then 100k, moonroof, 97-98, etc) so i'm happy with it.

Its your car, whatever floats your boat. :D

Turborich, that's a great point we all need to remember. When frustration sets in from having to buy parts from Ebay and the like. When another part goes out after just repairing one. But the awesome look, performance, sound and uniqueness of our Marks is well worth it. Heck, just being able to talk about them on this website is great. When you drive down the road you see very few ( at least around here ). Newer cars are great but they're everywhere. I like a certain degree of exclusivity on the highway. With mods, even more unique. No car payments, lower insurance. Sometimes we get caught up in the negatives and forget all of the positives these cars offer us, at under $ 40,000. lol.

First remember if you post asking for opinions you will get opinions and not all will be supportive of your view.

You need to be happy with what you purchased.. If you are happy then you did fine.

But you need to take care of that rust on the rockers fast or you will have more rust in a short time, especially if you are in a snow area.

oh i am happy with mine. its got the moon roof and it is 110% better than my 212000 mile cougar i was driving (this was purchased as a dd) I love the power and wanted it more for the motor than the car itself and mine at 41400 new im not going to complain and the best part is it was 4 miles away from my house but around here it doesnt seem like anything good last long on craigslist or anything like that. I was looking at the struts in the front and they were made in like aug 07 so they should last me a long time hopefully. the one on ebay didnt look taht nice to me so i wanted your guys opinions on his asking price. if he really wanted to sell it for what he was asking he would have cleaned it up. presentation is a big thing in how i look at things.

I bought my 94 black on black in 2005 with 164K for $1500 cash. All I have done to it is bought new tires, octastars from Jamie, had the windows tinted and replaced the drivers parking light. Also upgraded the EATC unit to the big button style. Air ride had recently been replaced a year or so before I got the car. Interior is in very good shape. So now I have right at $2800 not including the stereo. Of course Mobile 1 FS was put in and has been changed twice. It now has 178K and the only thing that has really went wrong is altenator, 3-4 shift solenoid, 1-2 shift accumulator piston and springs and water pump. Also just changed the plugs and wires last week and bought two new oxygen sensors but haven't replaced them yet. Not enough time lately. 14,000 miles in over 3 years isn't much but I don't drive it all over the place except to work which is 6 min away. Born at the factory, delivered to Alabama where no salt is put on streets (sand only if needed) and has always lived it's life in Alabama. Still does! Garaged at home and parked in the lower parking deck at work so it rarely sees any elements from the sun and weather. No rust anywhere. I'm not complaining because I don't pay $400 or more per month for a car and I don't have to worry with full coverage insurance. That alone adds up when someone else makes their final payment and I'm still driving the $1500 car.

A car with rust, I'd say maybe $1000 but not more than $1300 but what matters most is what you think about your deal and the car itself. Fix the rust quick because it never stops eating.

I paid too much for mine when I bought it.
I didn't know any better.
I thought at the time it was a good price.
After watching what others have paid I know now I paid too much.

But like mespock said if your happy thats all that counts.

Hell the kid got raped and hes still happy ;)

picked up my 94 portifino blue/ portifino blue for $1200 this nov.....car had 133k, bags were 3 years old, trans is all redone with shift kit :) car has options that count....moonroof, jbl with 10 disc changer and chrome wheels, car is in nice shape, only thing wrong with it was it needed a console lid.... not like my 95 that had stupid stuff like that stupid dimming outside mirror thats fogged and traction control....ugh
