Since my Mark is down right now, I have decided to buy another car to replace it. I have a couple options right now and just wanted to get an opinion from the members here.....

Option 1) 2004 Lincoln LS, 77k miles and looks brand new. Black with the charcoal gray interior $11k

Option 2) 2003 Mercury Marauder 73k miles and looks brand new $13k Black

Option 3) 2004 Jeep Wrangler, 70k miles, Sahara edition 5 speed, 6cyl Hard top and soft top included $9k Forest Green with Tan interior

I have heard and read many bad things about the Lincoln LS transmissions although I really do love those cars. The Marauder is a beautiful car but whatever I buy I am getting to be my daily driver while the Mark is restored in the garage. Ultimately it is my decision but I do value the opinions of most people on this board....

i would go for the marauder or jeep.

more likely the jeep- if you need a daily for IL, the 4x4 will help and it will take a beating.

but the marauder is built on the panther platform, tried and true. really do you want a good bulletproof driver(jeep), or the classic american RWD sedan with a little power?

i personally choose the maurader out of all of those....no real reason except the car is badass and the chassis is indestructable...plus it has a 300hp 4V

LS are nice cars, costly to maintain....but very beautiful cars

jeeps sucks....4.0L inlines are pigs on gas...better with either V8 of your other choices not to mention...ride crummy, poor suspensions, rattles vibrations etc etc

Marauder and Impala SS are the only two 4 door cars I would have no issue with owning. Have had a thing for the Marauders for a long time, so I vote for that once...might be able to knock the price down a bit. I looked at one similar to this a few years ago for $13k.

I'm torn between the Jeep and the Marauder too, I love Jeeps, had an 83 CJ7 for years and mechanically it never let me down, it just rusted out from under me LOL. I also love the lines of the Marauder and feel it would be a worthy substitute for my broken Mark.

offer 11k for the merc very nice car's, not a jeep fan so LS second, and if you need a suv why not a denali or navigator?

Navigator or Expedition have been on my mind but they are gas hogs. I'm not a Chevy/GM fan at all. I have only ever owned 1 Chevy in my life and that was 1 too many.

Marauder or LS?
you actually think that is a valid question????

uhmm that's a no brainer to me.

Marauder for sure! But 13k?? that seems high... "excellent" kbb value is $9,500

I've looked at Marauders for awhile, There is one locally on CL with 135k miles and it's going for $9800 so while the KBB has that price for Excellent, you have to take into consideration that it's a Limited Production Vehicle as well, so of course there is going to be a markup. I plan on making an offer of 10k and haggling from there.

In 2008, the Ford Performance Group offically began recognizing the Mercury Marauder (along with the Motor City Marauders Car Club as the offical club for the vehicle). And as of Fall 2009, the Ford Performance Group also began offering certificates verifing the Mercury Marauder as a Limited Production Vehicle.

Total production for the 2003–2004 Mercury Marauder was 11,052

* 2003 – Total: 7839 (328 Dark Pearl Blue, 417 Silver Birch, 7094 Black)
* 2004 – Total: 3213 (981 Dark Toreador Red, 987 Silver Birch , 1245 Black)

Prefer the looks of the Marauder, myself. One of my favorite FoMoCo products.

agree to disagree. I do very much like the look of the marauder, but the edge goes to the LS. Just my opinion. Of course I dont' expect everyone to agree with that.

I absolutely love the look of the LS, but I have read so many negative things about the problems with those cars, most notably the transmissions. It will be a long afternoon of test drives and beating on each respective car, fortunately the dealership offers a 3 month / 3000 mile warranty on all their used cars which isn't much but it's something. I don't want to sink the money into a car that may need a $3000 transmission repair within a few months of driving it. I've had my mind set on an LS for quite sometime now, but too much google can be a bad thing sometimes LOL

Transmission issues aren't very common. AT least, not as common as something like the coils, valve cover gaskets (2000-2003 only), coolant leak (degas bottle cracks), and other relatively small issues if you can turn your own wrenches.

The only common LS trans problem is the solenoid going bad which isn't too expensive to replace. A lot of the kinks in the first gen LS were ironed out by the time the 2nd gen came around.

thinking about selling the mark? pm me details if you are

*(apparently i have to get in line, haha) *

With some searching, you can get an 06 LS with way less miles for about 12.5 - 13k

Yup, as soon as I posted my other thread about being done with my Mark, the messages started coming in about me being interested in selling it. The classy part of it is that the person that first offered to buy it from me is also the person that later encouraged me to keep trying to fix it. Gotta love the brotherhood that is LVC!!

gotta make ya feel good about the car too, it's beautiful. I hope ya keep it because it seems like you are close to fixing it.

When I bought my LS I had the same decision as far as LS or Marauder. At the time the Marauders were more money, but I am glad in some ways I got the LS. LS deffinetly handles better, for room gotta go with the Marauder though. All cars have "problems", some more than others, but I have my car 3 years now and I put 50,000 miles on it, no real out of ordinary problems to speak of.

If I could afford it I would have both cars.
