for these car companies to sell more cars (especially if one gets wrecked out) the owner need to survive a crash before they can buy a new one

Oh and by the way, my other ride is a Suzuki GSX1300 and it does not have a seatbelt chime or airbag! I just have to strap on my helmet (Darwin) and avoid the “Dumbasses” which I have done successfully for over 20 years of performance motorcycle riding. :steering

thats really not a good argument, because if a drunk driver crosses the center lane at the last second and hits you, you are far less likely to survive on a motor cycle whether it has seat belts or air bags or not VS being in a 2 ton car with seat belt and many airbags

Okay, that’s an interesting theory. My opinion would be that one reason for safety mechanisms is that there are engineers in the companies that have a humanitarian focus and want to save lives. I think the bigger driving force, however, is the fear of lawsuits that can run 100's of millions of dollars.

On this point I am totally confused. I have never once advocated driving without a seat belt....The bigger point I am trying to make is in a free country people can do risky things every day like ride motorcycles, shoot guns, skydive, etc... It’s a statistical fact that riding a motorcycle (even if it had airbags) is more dangerous than driving a car yet I choose to do it for the joy of it. I just don’t want "Big Brother" telling me what is safe or not and that includes driving without a seat belt if you are that stupid. Since we all are reading this BS it means our ancestors were smart enough to survive and have babies in much more dangerous times without all kinds of warning signs, bells, and buzzers...

i dont really care who wears there seat belts and who doesn't, but i can definitely under stand why companies would go through so much trouble to encourage people to wear them, nor do i think that it is a bad ideal.


i know that there will be more that a few people reading this right now who will disable it just so that they can drive around and not be annoyed by it, and some of them have possibly been wearing their seat belts only so that they didn't have to hear the beeping

i'm sorry but i just believe that there would be too many people that would make bad life altering decisions, because they dont care to think of the consequences, and that info like this should stay hidden from those who are not smart enough to read fhe manual for themselves

you are right, we do live in a free country, and we have the right to make our own decisions, but way too many people in this country need a little poke in the right direction to make good choices. that is all the belt minder is, a friendly reminder to follow the law and protect yourself at the same time

im just throwing this out there so that maybe some people will double think about shutting it off and driving while not wearing seatbelts.

This may have once been a free country, but it's getting less and less free everyday. Tried to fly lately?

Anyway, about once every month or so some kids around here roll their pickup and get killed because they are ejected. Most of those would be alive without a scratch if they had their seat belts on. My cousin fell asleep while driving one night. The truck rolled over a couple of times. It ejected him on the first roll and rolled over and killed him on the second one. It ended up upright, with the door closed, and still running. The truck was hardly damaged.

All that said, it was his choice to make and he paid the price for it. Government should make laws to protect me from you and you from me, not to protect me from me.

thank you for posting this. i read my manual but i must have been asleep because i missed this.

but, after doing it, and getting the airbag light response on light, like you did, i'm still not working.

i'm actually trying to get the chime to speak up when i've forgotten to wear my belt. at start up it speaks up, but then it goes away. my 02 LS starts a chime a few minutes after and i'm hoping to get that on my 04 LS

i always wear my belt (i believe it saved by life a little while back), and i'd like to be able to enable the chime. i bought the car i'm working on second hand, and always thought the sensor was bad... now you have me thinking the person disabled it...

Is this supposed to also silence the seatbelt chime you get when starting the car (or turning the ignition to ON) without the seatbelt buckled? That's the one I want to remove. I wear my belt while driving but almost always start the car before buckling. I keep meaning to buckle then turn the key but what can I say old habits die hard

I did the procedure for the driver's seat and got the blinky airbag light, but it still chimes on startup when unbuckled. (genII)

I disabled this on my gen 1 and I don't get the chime but do see the red seat belt minder on the cluster for a minute or so and then it goes out.

No chime on start up when unbuckled.

gen 2 might differ.

Could you post the instructions to re-enable the belt chime for a Gen I? I'm a safty freak and want this on, the previous owner(s) seemed to have disabled it as per the symptoms in the above post.

For instance, in the 2001 Lincoln LS Owners Manual (pdf), it starts at the bottom of page 119.
